Veronica

Veronica, MOVE.

The voice shouted in my ear, causing adrenaline to rush through my veins. Alexander pushed himself in front of me, one hand on his hip while the other stretched out to block me. "Thats pretty fucking creepy to say you fucking quack." Alexander spat towards the man, leaving a thick wad of spit right by his shined leather loafers. That creature just tilted his head lightly to the side, as if reading every sin ever made by my dear friend. His neck then snapped, turning his head impossibly far to the left. Every single hair on my skin stood on edge.

"I would ask which one of you it was, but nothing would stop me from both of you." The creature didn't even acknowledge Alex's weak insult, looking through his very soul with those burning blue eyes. One long leg extended as he stepped closer to where I remained huddled behind my larger friend.

"If you're looking to buy shes off the market you sick pervert." Alexander stood toe to toe, not noticing the danger, not running. There was not fighting and winning this creature. There was only losing.

Without another moment of hesitation, I turned on my heels and ran, just in time to hear the blood curdling scream of my old friend Alexander fill the air. It was like the world around me became dark, the alleyway fogging with a deep, thick mist. Taking the risk to glance back, all I could see was my long time friend laying on the floor, his slowly beating heart ripped from his open chest, resting beside him. That creature leaned over him, a black clawed hand brought up to his lips as he made a face of disgust.

"Easy enough." His voice echoed off the walls around me as his head snapped towards me, those blue glowing eyes locked. That expensive loafer landed on the fragile organ with one disgusting, nerve wracking squish.

Veronica, now!

Oh shit, you don't have to tell me twice. Or maybe you did, sorry. I could feel the tears prick at my eyes, the full panic setting in. Not even my weak humor could clear my head. Left, right, right, that voice was cooing directions in my ears, guiding me as my eyes slowly became more and more useless. That dark fog gripped and held onto my senses like spider webbing.

My legs pumped, my lungs ached, the stupid fucking can of plaster was making a welt on my back, but I never stopped. If I stopped running, I was going to end up like Alex. Poor Alex, he was protecting me, however naive that was, and now he was dead. I had to be careful, I was listening intently to the voices direction, but I knew where it was leading me. Everything in my body told me it was the safest place to be, but I didn't want to lead that creature to my friends', peacefully sleeping, unknown of the evils I could be bringing right to their front door.

In what seemed like a fraction of the time, I was nearing the edge of the woods. I could see the line of trees in front of me, the thinning industrial buildings leading me straight up the path to safety. Suddenly, a shape appeared through the dense fog.

"Where are you headed, little girl? Are you trying to offer yourself to those pathetic weaklings? They won't help you either. Best give yourself to us lest you desire to suffer." The voice echoed off each and every surface around me, skittering my step to a halt. I could nearly feel the woods, the tall wall that seperated nature from town so close. Safety, just out of touch, fingertips away. Spinning around on the heel of my boots, that creature stood only 10 feet from me.

It was like he was toying with me this whole time.

"What the FUCK are you?" I screamed as the hot tears streamed down my eyes, that thick fog pushing itself forcefully from my mind. Finally I could clearly see, I mean, if I could stop crying.
