(Ava's P.O.V)

A few days later, I was working the night shift. Connor had surprisingly come in in a tuxedo with a middle-aged woman, about 40ish. What on earth was he doing bringing his one-night stands here.

I laughed when I saw him turn the corner. "It must be difficult to remember all their names. Now I remember that Derek Jeter used to send his conquests home with a gift basket, but a full cardio workup is much classier." I heard she was complaining of chest pain. Must have been from their steamy rendez-vous.

"Jeter, huh. You're a baseball fan?"

"No, it's too boring. But I do love gossip." I followed him into gather some information on whats going on. I found it hilarious that he was in a perfectly good tux with his friend seated on the bed.

"Well, we will get you in and out of here as soon as possible." Said Connor. I wanted to tease him with this. The nurse thought it was hilarious. Maybe he was trying to flex that he had so many women?

"That's what Dr Rhoades is renowned for around here: quick in and outs." I laughed. "I'm Dr Bekker by the way."

The nurse brought out the woman's license. "It seems here you're a dependent of Theodore J. Dimillio?"

"That would be my husband." Said the woman. I had to stop myself from laughing because this situation was beyond hilarious. I didn't know Connor was a homewrecker!

"Would you like us to contact him?" I asked the patient.

"No not yet." I found this so funny. We ended up having to perform surgery on his "friend." I had to lead as it would be a conflict for Connor.

-------

"Surgery went without a hitch. Seems your personal life keeps working in my favour."

The patient's husband emerged from the door. He thanked me for my surgery with a hug. I couldn't stop but looking at Connor.

"It was actually Dr Rhodes here who made the diagnosis." I chuckled.

"Well both of you then, I don't know what I would do without her." This man was clearly not at the same position as of his "wife."

Connor stared me down as the man hugged him.

--------- The next day, Dr's Lounge ---------

(Connor's P.O.V.)

Another day went by without trouble. I'd had another one night stand with the detective from the case we just operated on. I went into the doctor's lounge to grab something to eat to see Ava in there on the rest bed.

"You were throwing some beautiful stitches back there, fast." I said.

"Well, you moved right with me, spot on with the graft."

"Yeah." I sipped my tea.

"So, which of your myriad girlfriends gets Dr Rhoades tonight?" She put her book down.

I laughed. "No, tonight it's just me and Jimmy Fallon. I've gotta pace myself, you know."

"You're a real mystery. You used to be such a one-woman guy."

"Yeah well that didn't work out particularly well did it." I gazed into her. eyes. She was pulling a nerve and it was working. I couldn't help but notice just how beautiful she really was. I mean I knew she was pretty but like now she just looked incredible. The way her curls flowed on her lab coat and the part tucked behind her ear mesmerised me. I came back to reality when Latham entered. Professional thoughts only, Connor!

"Aortic dissection. Very often fatal. Mazal Tov to you both." Said Latham. "I emailed you a case, conjoined twins. We plan to seperate them in about a month. It's going to be a long and difficult procedure involving several departments. I am putting together our team."

"I'll look forward to it." Said Ava.

"Actually, I haven't decided which of my fellows I'm going to include."

Latham left. Perhaps Ava was disappointed if I was chosen for the case and not her.

"It sounds like he's going to only bring on one of us!" Said Ava as I reached into the fridge.

"Yeah, you shouldn't have invited me into the aortic dissection, you could have grabbed all the glory for yourself." I said. "Gotten a leg up." I turned around and Ava was standing close to me. We were at eye level and her stare was invigorating.

"That's what I get for hedging my bet." She licked her lips.

"Yeah, it's.... better to go all in." I didn't blink and looked right at her. She was looking at my eyes and then my lips, then my eyes again. I couldn't contain it anymore.

We kissed. So what if she was a colleague. She was smooth and inviting. The kiss was passionate and left me wanting more. I couldn't help but bring her home after the night had ended. Jimmy Fallon could wait.

----------- The next day, Connor's apartment -------

(Ava's P.O.V.)

The night was fun to say the least. I knew I could have Dr Rhoades. All I had to do was catch him in the right moment and I left him with no more defence mechanisms. I woke up to hear him making noises in the kitchen. I got dressed ready to head home before work later that day.

"Morning." I felt like this was the walk of shame.

"Morning. Uh, do you want me to make you some coffee?" I put my shirt back on

"No, I always get one from the cart at work, unless you're making one for yourself."

"Uh no actually the cart sounds good, cause I have no idea how to use this thing." He was glowing. He looked messy but he was glowing. I could tell he was pleased with himself. I chuckled. How does he not know how to use a coffee machine? "So do you wanna go straight to work or do you need to stop at your place first?"

"I think my fish will survive until I get home tonight. Though I could go feed them now, and then maybe we could go get a drink after work?"

"Yeah sure." I was surprised he said yes.

"Uh, actually, I have plans tonight. But I can cancel them!"

"Nope, keep your plans. It's fine."

I could hear him utter "smooth" as I walked back to his room to get my bag.
