"You're dating Lan Wangji?" Jin Guangyao slams his glass on the counter. "No way."
"I am!" Xue Yang laughs, throwing back his drink. "I met him at a party and we just hit it off!"
"That simply cannot be true." Jin Guangyao rolls his eyes. "Wangji wouldn't be able to stand you. Not for one second."
"Okay, okay." Xue Yang shrugs. "I got him drunk and told him that he came on to me, and he's dating me out of politeness."
"Ah," Jin Guangyao smirked. "Now that would work on a Lan."
"You can't blame me," Xue Yang pulls up a picture of Lan Wangji and him on his phone. "He's just so hot."
The picture surprises Jin Guangyao. His ex-brother-in-law has his arm over Xue Yang's shoulders, his lips curved in a gentle smile.
"You really are dating him!" He looks up at Xue Yang's smug face with wide eyes. "Incredible."
"I told you so," Xue Yang says in a sing-song voice. "Anyway, I had a very interesting conversation with Lan Xichen today."
"What about it? And what do you want?" Jin Guangyao knows that nothing in this world comes free.
"10,000 dollars is a good jump-off point," Xue Yang twirls his crooked pinky finger on the edge of his glass. "Though you may want to pay me a lot more once you hear what I have to say!"
Jin Guangyao checks his reflection in the hotel bathroom, his hands twitching to fix his tie, his hair, to straighten his already-straight jacket. He can't believe that Lan Xichen wants to see him! Him! After the divorce trial had ended, he had tried to reach out to Lan Xichen in every conceivable way, from bribes to threats, up until the point that Lan Wangji had threatened to sue him for harassment. After the debacle with Jiang Cheng, he had never imagined that Xichen would ever look at him, let alone speak to him. And yet here he was, minutes away from the meeting that Xue Yang had set up. With one last exhale, he arranges his face into a shy smile, and starts to make his way to the hotel bar.
Lan Xichen is dressed all in white, as only the Lans can do. His dark hair frames his face, shorter than the last time Jin Guangyao had seen him. He's nursing a glass of clear liquid that Jin Guangyao knows to be club soda. He can't help but smile, thinking of the numerous nights in college that Xichen-ge, da-ge and he had spent going to clubs, dancing, drinking, having to carry Nie Mingjue back to his dorm room, and finally falling asleep in the same bed out of exhaustion. And then, like everyone else in his life, his two best friends had chosen each other, and left him in the dust.
"Hi, gege," He smiles as he sits down next to Xichen at the bar. "Did you miss me?"
Once that same coy smile would have tugged at Lan Xichen's heartstrings, pulling out a smile of his own. Now, it only reminds him of everything that he has lost. "Hi," he nods, his hands gripping the counter. "Thank you for agreeing to see me."
"Thank you, ge!" Jin Guangyao takes Lan Xichen's hands in his own. "I have missed you so much."
"A-Yao," Xichen extricates his hands from the smaller man's grasp. "I wanted to talk to you about Jiang Cheng."
Jin Guangyao looks as if he has been slapped across the face. His smile turns mocking, as he tilts his head towards his ex-husband. "You're still hung up on him? Is that why you wanted to see me?"
"You are going to make a play against Yunmeng Pharmaceuticals, right?" Lan Xichen grabs his glass, downing the soda. "Please don't hurt him."
"Ha!" Jin Guangyao leans closer, his eyes on Lan Xichen's pretty mouth, sloppily wet from the drink. "And why shouldn't I, when you're still in love with him?"
"I will let him go." Xichen shakes his head, as if trying to clear it. "If you let him go, as well."
Jin Guangyao can't help but reach out to wipe the side of his Lan Xichen's lips. So beautiful, especially when he is miserable. He doesn't break eye-contact as he licks the remnants of the drink off his thumb, making Xichen blush all the way down to his neck.
"Huh," Jin Guangyao's eyes widen. "This isn't soda."
"It is not." Lan Xichen meets his eyes. "I am ready to let him go. Whatever it takes to keep him safe and happy."
The words barely leave his mouth, and Lan Xichen falls into Jin Guangyao's arms. Jin Guangyao runs his hands over his husband's strong back, always resilient and unyielding... until his family is threatened. He can't help but grab his hair, as he realizes that Lan Xichen thinks of Jiang Cheng as his family, too. As Xichen gasps, he forces himself to let go, and pats his hair gently. "You're up, laogong?"
"Mn," Lan Xichen tries to sit up.
"Let's go home, okay?" He decides to call his chauffeur, Su She, to take Lan Xichen home. "I knew you would come back to me. No one else could love you like I do."
"Fuck off!" Jin Guangyao almost falls off his seat, as Lan Xichen is pulled off of him. He pulls himself together to meet a pair of glaring eyes, as Jiang Cheng holds onto Lan Xichen's waist, his face tucked into the shorter man's shoulder. "I love him. I have always loved him."
Jin Guangyao splutters, trying to control his rage. "What do you think you're doing? He's my-"
"He's my boyfriend." Jiang Cheng growls. "Starting now."
"Really?" Lan Xichen mumbles and raises his eyes to Jiang Cheng's. "Baobei, will you really take me back?"
"Sleep," Jiang Cheng snaps, and Xichen shoves his face back into his shoulder.
"You idiot," Jin Guangyao smirks. "You'll regret this."
"If this idiot can agree to get back with an actual demon," he looks Jin Guangyao up and down, "just to protect my career, I can be an idiot for him too." He swiftly picks Lan Xichen up into his arms, who giggles like a new bride. "We're leaving."
"Bye!" Lan Xichen waves at his ex-husband before putting his arms around his boyfriend's (!!!) shoulders.
"Meng Yao," he turns around to see Lan Wangji walking towards him. "You're done. You need to let this go."
"Oh?" Jin Guangyao barks out a laugh, sounding just as unhinged as he feels. "And why would I do that, Lan-er-gongzi? You and Xue Yang are going to pay for this shit!"
"No, we're really not." He hands over a manila envelope to Jin Guangyao who rips into it, his face turning ashen as he looks at a picture of himself at Xue Yang's last party. He looks zoned out, lying on the couch, while Wen Chao and Wang Lingjiao make out, next to him. On the coffee table before them, he can see unambiguous lines of cocaine, surrounded by pills and other baggies.
"You!" He points a finger at Lan Wangji's smirking face. "You would sell out your boyfriend for this? How cruel, Lan Wangji!"
"Xue Yang has Lan & Associates on retainer for the rest of his life." Lan Wangji brushes him off, as if even speaking to Jin Guangyao is an affront. "And he is not my boyfriend."
As Lan Zhan opens the door to his car, he is alarmed to see Wei Ying groaning and bashing his head into the steering wheel. That is, until he sees, or rather hears, his brother call out to 'Cheng-Cheng!' in the backseat. His face turns red, as he pretends not to see that his brother trying to climb into a grown man's lap, while Jiang Cheng gently tries to get him down. As Wei Ying drives them home, he sticks his head out the window, trying to clear his head, finally understanding what it feels to be the exasperated brother of a shameless boyfriend.
Bonus scene!
"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying pouts as Lan Wangji moves away from Xue Yang once again. "You have to smile like you like him!"
"But," he shakes his head. "I really don't like him."
"Ugh!" Xue Yang buries in face into a cushion. "He is such a bitch... it's so hot!", he groans.
Wei Ying rolls his eyes, and takes Lan Zhan's face in his hands. "For your brother, and mine... please?"
Ultimately, they end up asking Jingyi, Lan Zhan's 14-year-old cousin, to photo-shop Xue Yang's face onto Wei Ying's body. It turns out quite well.
