"Alright take care, I'll be seeing you next weekend yes?" Your father bid farewells to the elderly lady that came to church this morning.

"Of course Mr. Teagardin." The woman walked down the aisle in between the two sides of the benches.

"Goodbye honey."

"Goodbye Mrs. Sapphire." You waved at her as you picked up another bible and organized it as it was in the morning. Your father found it silly to do such a thing but you found peace knowing that the books were well taken care of and handled right.

"Sweetheart don't ya think the place is clean enough?" You father teased as you spun around to face him.

"Just about. I still have to pick up the sheet music." You nodded as you walked past him to the front of the stand.

"Sweetheart I have to go run an errand. Think you can manage the old fort while I'm gone?"

"It's a church daddy..." You laughed.

"Well if that Travis what's his name comes by and starts picking on you, you let me know, alright. Don't want anything to happen to ya."

"I'll be fine daddy. I'm not 8 anymore." You playfully shoved his shoulder.

"Alright then, I'll leave you to your...sheets and what not." He leaned forward and kissed your forehead. "Be back before ya know it." You closed your eyes and smiled at him. He then grabbed his coat and put it on. Taking his briefcase along with him and before you knew it he was out the church doors...and you were all by yourself. You knew what his errand was, more so someone. You had caught your father kissing a girl who was not your mother. He made you swear not to tell her or else. You didn't want to know what he meant by that. The girl named Lenora who was old enough to be your sister. Only being a few years older than you. You were truly disgusted by the thought of her, but there was nothing you could do 'because you were still too young to understand' so your father stated.

You welcomed the new found silence and began to hum a soft melody your mother would to sing to you. You swayed as you grabbed the music from the benches. Your dress moved with each movement. Once you were getting closer to the podium you noticed a sheet of paper had fallen to the ground. Realizing you'd have to crouch down to reach it as it was between two rows. You moved your hair behind your ears and kneeled down and then bent over to reach for it.

When your hand touched it. The paper moved, and then the sound of doors opening could be heard. You were still crouched down and could see a pair of brown boots step into the threshold. The person seemed to be lingering at the front doors before the sound of their shoes walking began. The sound grew closer and before you knew it they were right behind you, and you were not in the best position at the moment. Your hair was messed up and the skirt of your dress had just about risen too much to see your panties.

"You alright there darlin?" The familiar drawl and the use of the word 'darlin' made your ears perk up. There was only one boy in this town who greeted you as such.
