I was sat at the same round table that I had seen on my first day at the hospital. Really gives you that great feeling of nostalgia, doesn't it, when you're in the place that you were tested on for ten years? Yeah, right. I drink the glass of water stood in front of me on the perfectly round table. Marie was still trying to talk to me, although her efforts were obviously wasted.
"Adrian, please listen. You could help so many people...." Her voice trails away. I think she's finally getting the message that she's getting absolutely nowhere in her endeavours.
"Look, lady, I'm sorry, but I'm not helping you anymore. To be honest, I didn't want to help you in the first place. So, yeah, I don't know what else I can do." I shake my head. Marie looks sadly into my eyes.
"Oh, Adrian. What have your few moments of freedom done to you? You used to be so...." Marie frowns, thinking for the word.
That's it. That's enough.
"Gullible? Weak? Believing?" I snap at her, making her jump in her chair; I rise out of my seat, my anger rising with me. "No more, Marie. I don't know where Lela is, and you don't seem to care. So I'm going to get out of here now, I don't care how, and I'm going to find my friend. Because I'm sick of all your fearmongering and your tests and your lies, so go find someone else, preferably a volunteer, to go do your stuff for you, because I'm not gonna do it."
She watches me as I make my way to the door. All my anger and frustration is just flowing, so that I almost pull the door handle off when I open the door.
"Goodbye, Adrian."
I just look at her one last time as I leave. I walk through the white corridors. The building apears to be empty, but surely there are guards somewhere? Suddenly, the walls seem to close in on me; the world is spinning. My eyesight blurs, I can't see properly. What's happening?
Then I realise. The water. Marie had put something in my water. I hear footsteps behind me, and I try to turn around. I can make out a tall, blonde figure in front of me.
"I'm sorry Adrian. But we can't let you go. Not now, when we're so close. Just sleep."
Then the world fades to black.
