Here I was. Sat in a dark alleyway with my sister clung onto to me. As I stared at the sky, my mind wouldn't stop replaying this mornings events.I should have never left the house. We could have all been together if I chose to stay. However it was all in the moment. The look on my little sisters face broke my heart and I had to get her out of there. Something I wished someone would had done for me when I was just a child.
My parents have always struggled raising me as I was a very rebellious child. Most people have told me I was acting up for attention as my mother and father were always away working and busy taking care of my little sister. But that isn't true.
I was left in the care of my auntie most of the time but ever since she had become pregnant, she's been very busy with her own child. Another thought; where is she right now? Is she okay?
My eyes grew heavy but my brain was very much awake, it was a battle between my body and my mind. My body was tired and achy, but my mind was too active to rest.
Another reason why I couldn't sleep is where we are right now was not safe, we are laying on the staircase at the side of a building, in a very dark alleyway. It sounds very uncomfortable, but it's not that bad. I thought that the higher we are off the ground, the safer we would be. Luckily the stairs end above the ground so none of the ill people could climb up.
No matter where you are in the city, moans and groans could be heard all around. Right now I couldn't see any or 'them', but the noises they make scare me.
We were just at the supermarket when we saw one of them for the first time. At first I didn't believe it. I thought I was seeing things, until I made eye contact with one of them. Her face was pale and covered in blood, her eyes were bloodshot and her teeth were rotting. At that moment I realised that I wasn't seeing things.
"Ma'am are you okay?" No answer.
She moved closer. I could tell in her eyes that she was acknowledging me, so why ignore?
"Ma'am, I'm gonna need you to stay back."
She ignored everything and lunged at me. My body went limp and fell to the ground with her on top of me, snapping her teeth in my face.
"Get the fuck off of me!" I screamed. But she didn't seem to listen, it wasn't until her head exploded right before me did she stop.
Since I was in a state of panic, I quickly rolled the body off of me and stood up. Facing me was probably one of the biggest guys I have ever met.
"I-I don't. I. Thank you." I stuttered, tripping over my words. I was in total shock.
My head felt like it was about to roll off my shoulders and my body was shaking.
"Hey, look at me. It's okay." My mind was powering off and he grabbed me just before I fainted.
The next thing I remember is being woken up by my little sister in a dark alleyway.
When I asked her what happened she told me that the man who saved us at the supermarket dropped us off here and would be back.
I have seen movies about the apocalypse before but actually being in one is totally different. In movies they don't show you the struggles; like how hard it is to find somewhere safe, or finding food or water.
The last thing I heard on the radio before it cut off was that the only way to kill them properly was to destroy their brain. Now, I have seen that in movies, but I can't bring myself to kill one.
