Prologue

Year 1919.

Twenty years after the Philippines achieved independence from Spain, one American couple remained in the country to establish a motel business, which later served as a shelter for soldiers during World War II.

In the suburban area along Epifania, an American couple, the Davidsons—Walter and Editha—lived in the country. Known for their wealth in the U.S., they owned multiple real estate properties. When they saw an opportunity to expand in the Philippines, they bought several properties, including one along Epifania.

With their thriving motel and hotel business in the U.S., the couple's reputation quickly spread in the city.

In 1920, construction of their first motel in the Philippines began. It took only six months to complete the ten-story building, which was highly anticipated. After six months, they opened their first motel in the country, named Motel Maria.

The motel was named after their twelve-year-old daughter, Maria Davidson.

Over the years, the Davidsons took great pride in their creation, as their motel became a home for many. In just one year, they hosted fifty thousand guests, a number that repeated annually. On special occasions, the number of guests soared to between seventy-five and one hundred thousand, which became a challenge for them.

They made a lot of money and were well-known, but with so many guests, some dreadful events occurred along the way.

For 20 years, the motel operated smoothly until World War II broke out, severely affecting their business—all of their businesses in the country. The Davidsons fled to America, ultimately losing millions, possibly billions, due to the war.

They lost track of their beloved motel and never returned. They later heard that soldiers fighting in the war occupied the place until the conflict ended.

After that, Motel Maria faded into history—its story forgotten until 2021, when a new owner purchased the property, rebuilt it from the ground up and reopened it.

Motel Maria is back in business, but it's not the same as before. Everything has changed. To this day, only a few people are brave enough to stay there, as many believe the motel is haunted after being abandoned for eighty years. Now, it opens its doors once again to new occupants.
