Robin
I always knew there was a world besides ours. They always tell us that the world that was once up there was demolished. I often see warriors coming down with new things, however; things that I know aren't invented by us. See, we live underground. The Others cursed us to the ground, and no one is to go above ground after they've been recruited- unless they have a Statue.
Every Diterrian family owns a Statue, above ground. They're only about three inches tall, but small things can contain a lot of power. Some keep it locked away in safes three feet thick. Others keep it out in the open, where children marvel at its beauty. Little do they know that one day, they too will be recruited to Diterra, just like their parents. The reason I know all of this? Well, being the only kid down here gets boring. Sometimes you just happen to overhear things through the vents.
Statues provide protection for Diterrian warriors who fight against the Others -invisible creatures only seen by Diterrians- who kill off mankind by spreading untreatable diseases. We are the protectors. We're fierce warriors who will do anything to save mankind, even give our own life. It takes a lot of dedication and training to be a Diterrian. But don't worry, we only recruit kids when they're mature enough.
My family is no different. My parents are almost always above ground. There are rarely any kids my age down here, and the ones who are my age are jerks. Every day is the same; wake up, grab an apple, train, eat lunch, explore through the vents (also known as free time), eat supper, train, go to bed. The only real friend I have down here is Caleb, my training instructor. My brother and his friends are too old to care about my problems, and my sister is too young to take in the Diterrian world. However the elders, the only people I really talk to, keep telling me that all of this is about to change.
