Title: Desiderium

House: Gryffindor

With your eyes closed, you gently pressed the keys of your rosewood piano, playing a simple tune you had played since childhood. As your hands cascaded down the keys you felt emotion flood through you. Though simple, it reminded you of someone you had grown deeply fond of. An unrequited love from your school, someone you knew would never be able to love you. Not due to your personality or looks, but because of your blood status.

Regulus Arcturus Black, the younger brother of Sirius Black, was a Slytherin in your year who didn't really talk much. You had grown attached during the time you had spoken to each other, even though it was in brief passing, sometimes even insulting. Most of the time, however, he was quite respectful of you. His family life didn't seem to be the best suited for him, sometimes you would hear him grumble an apology to people who had been belittled due to their blood. Falling for him was the worst decision you could have possibly made, even if he was the most perfect man you had ever laid your eyes on, he would never be able to truly be yours.

An aching pain filled your chest, tears rushing to your eyes as the melody you played came to an end, though it was better than being hollow. You wished he wouldn't absquatulate, every time another Slytherin would come near the two of you in the library. Trying to detach yourself so far hadn't worked, every melody you played on your piano would remind you of him in some way. Without him listening, it was almost like a broken melody, unheard and cast away into the misty void.

Standing from your piano, you let out a sorrowful sigh, wiping your tears with the bottom of your sleeve as you made your way to your bedroom to start packing. You were heading back to Hogwarts tomorrow, not having much left to pack you decided to distract yourself with the task. Though nothing would calm the aching of your heart, you could always distract your mind from its lonely thoughts. Grasping at your clothes, you folded them one by one into your trunk, readying yourself for your final year. Soon you were done, falling onto your comfortable, well-loved bed, finding yourself drifting into a sleep where your clingulomania would take over all your dreams.

Train rides to Hogwarts were never something you truly enjoyed, more of an endurement of your patience. Shuffling into an empty carriage, you settled down, a glum expression on your face as you awaited the struggles the school year would have to come. All the decisions you weren't ready to make that were being forced upon you, things you should have thought of before your final year catching up on you. Leaning your head back, you rested it on the uncomfortable feeling seat, the top of your head ever so slightly touching the carriage wall. Closing your eyes, you drifted off into your own world, a world where you didn't have to worry about all the strife that would come your way.

A rattle filled the room as someone knocked on the carriage window, turning your head to check who it was, your breath caught in your throat. Almost as if you were trying to swallow your own miserable heart. Two males stood at the door of the compartment, Severus Snape was uncomfortably shifting his weight, seeming upset at the predicament he had found himself in, while Regulus stood calmly beside him. Looking away out the window, you chose to make yourself a ghost to the boys, hoping they would do the same to you. Noticing the lack of care for if they stayed, the two quickly filed into the compartment, Regulus sat in front of you with Severus by his side.

Silence had filled the room for quite some time, only ever so often being filled by the sound of shuffling or a sniffle. You found yourself in a state of rubatosis, praying that Regulus wouldn't notice that you were looking at his reflection in the carriage window. 'He hasn't said a word, how am I this worked up' you mentally huffed, not wanting to disturb the peace the two could have found in the quiet space. Severus pulled a book out from beside him, you were surprised his reading wouldn't be disturbed by the pounding of your heart, so loud in your ears. Soon, turning pages had seemed to fill the gaps where the lack of sound seemed unbearable, you were almost thankful to hear the noise before even entering the castle walls.
