I lay awake in my bed as the sun rose and realised that I hadn't managed to sleep at all. I couldn't stop thinking through all of my unanswered questions.

Why would Camille kill two elven adventurers?

Why would Richard be okay with that?

Should I approach them and ask why?

I pulled myself out of bed and into the small bathroom. I ran myself a hot bath and got dressed in the guild uniform that Richard had given me on my training day. The uniform for the guild was a black button up shirt, a black skirt, black thigh-high socks and formal black boots that laced up my shins. An optional black cloak could also be worn in the winter. I half tied my long blond hair up at the back and the let the rest hang around my face.

I made my way downstairs to the kitchen and found nobody there, or in any other rooms, so I walked out of the veterans house and towards the main hall.

The main hall was mostly empty when I arrived, with only a couple of people scattered around the tables, nobody behind the bar and Marie sat behind reception.

"Hey, where is everyone?" I asked Marie, looking around confused.

"It's a Monday morning dear, the job board was posted an hour ago so everybody has already gone out adventuring!" Laughed Marie, pointing towards the job board. Although the many of the lower levelled jobs had been taken, most of the high-level jobs remained.

"Oh." I sighed, thankful that I hadn't been asked to adventure with my lack of sleep.

"Clara!" Shouted a familiar voice from the main entrance.

Nala grasped my shoulders from behind and patted me on the back. She was also wearing the guild uniform, but she had little gold stars embroidered on her cloak.

"We're going on an adventure!" She shouted excitedly and my face dropped.

"Have fun!" Yelled Marie with a sympathetic smile on her face as Nala dragged me by my arm to the armoury.

"Take this, and this, and this." Said Nala as she piled items into my arms. A staff about the height of me with a shiny white stone as the centre piece, a necklace that seemed to glow with a purple hue, a holster and short silver knife.

"What am I doing with all of this stuff?" I questioned. "And what adventure are you talking about? You're a veteran and I'm a new member, surely our levels are too different!" I complained to Nala as she handed me three little vials of blue liquid with nothing written on them.

"Don't be silly!" She laughed, handing me another staff, with a red stone as the centre piece.

"We're going on a super easy veteran-level adventure I managed to snag while the others are asleep. Then we will cash in the reward!" She explained while grinning.

"I don't know..." I trailed off, remembering the catastrophe of my last adventure.

"Trust me." She stated, looking into my eyes. "We'll do some easy work, we'll make the guild a lot of money and we'll make ourselves a lot of money."

I nodded, admitting defeat. I don't think anything would have changed her mind.

She took all of the items out of my arms and left me with the two staffs.

"Which of these do you prefer?" She asked.

"I don't know they're both the same." I replied, the weight and height very similar on both.

Nala placed the other items on a shelf next to her and used her onyx fangs to rip a large cut on either hand.

"Heal each hand with a different staff." She ordered holding her bleeding hands out towards me.
