Jake got up at the first sign of dawn, running a hand through his mop of chestnut hair as he turned and looked at his brown orbs in the mirror. He gives a satisfactory chuckle, throwing on his school blazer with his family's royal crest proudly displayed on the chest. He put on his school pants, giving one last glance into the mirror before stepping out into the corridor.
At the breakfast table, Jake sat across from his dad. He sat there in his finest clothes, apparently already prepared for a day of ruling the kingdom.
"Son, I have big news for you," he mumbled, shoveling a bit of royal eggs and toast into his mouth. When he finished swallowing, he spoke again. "You're getting married."
The news caused Jake's eyes to glow dangerously, and he stood up from the table. "YOU DON'T KNOW ME DAD, I DON'T WANT TO GET MARRIED TO SOME RANDOM WOMAN!!!" he shoved in his chair before storming off dramatically like UGH. 😡😡😡 Not watching where he's going, he runs into a small maid that's carrying trays in the hallway. He blinks in surprise "who are u" and he stares down at her.
The girl blinked her violet blue orbs and smiled sheepishly "Catherine" and her cheeks went pink.
"Well... 'Catherine', what's a girl like you doing around this castle?" he asks, leaning against the wall seductively like a bad boy.(grr)
"I'm doing my job, your highness." she murmured shyly.
Jake chuckles in a low growl. "Haha, good." He closes his eyes because why not, and he smirks, running a hand through his beautiful hair again.
"But, I'm not YOUR maid! I will not clean up after such a slob!" she huffed tsundere-ish. Her cheeks flared pink, "Besides, you're getting married to the perfect girl."
Jake sighs, shaking his head. "She's not the perfect girl at all. My dad, the really important king, thinks I'll be happier marrying a woman, but really......... I don't want to marry her." He says, sighing again for dramatic effect(I guess).
"Oh, that sounds harsh." Catherine tucked a strand of her long, silky yellow hair behind her ear, "I'm sure you'll find the perfect princess someday!"
"I'm more of a free spirit........ I like to ride and hunt with my friends, not be... arranged for marriages and princesses just so I can carry on my father's bloodline ...." Jake says, towering over Catherine and her petite frame. "I just wish...... there was someone to save me from this misery." He says, staring off into the distance with his chocolate brown orbs twinkling sadly.
Catherine sighed, "Well, if you ever need someone to ride with, I'm always available. I'm not like other girls, I love riding."
Jake blushes a bit, giving a howl of amusement. "For sure. Just find some free time, and we can have one last ride before I'm set to marry." He says, very uwu shy all of a sudden now because Catherine is, indeed, not like the other girls.
Catherine frowned, "When's the ceremony? I have a very busy schedule, since I'm not like the normal maids. I work overtime and have 3 kids."
Jake nods. "I know you're not like them. That's why I'm requesting you and I go on a midnight ride. Just you and me, galloping through the forest on the best horses in the royal stable. What do you say, Catherine?"
He says, smiling down at her with a charming grin.
"Oh, yes, yes!" She smiled, "That sounds wonderful, indeed. Tonight? It's the only night I'm not booked 30 hours a day."
"We have to leave late, because my dad should never find out. He'll ban me from riding.... Forever..." Jake says, frowning as he closes his eyes for no reason at all once more.
Catherine closes her eyes for a moment," Indeed. Let me finish my chores, then we'll ride like we've never rode before!" She cheered.
Jake smiles. "I love the confidence. How does... Hmm.... 12:30am sound? That's enough time to get the horses out before the guards start walking the premises."
Catherine nodded, "This'll be a night I shall never forget." She chanted before flying down the left wing corridor to the laundry, which, for some odd reason, is on the whole other side of the castle.
"Wear your riding clothes!" He calls after her, but she's already flown away.
The only thing she left was a strand of her perfectly wavy, yellow, silky, perfect hair, delicately laying on the ground in front of his feet.
Jake picks it up and gives it a good sniff, staring into the empty corridor with a longing boner. He smiles wistfully before returning off to his room even though it's only breakfast and he literally has more than twelve hours to go.
