"Honestly." Commented Rebecca. "I met this Jonathan guy in my language class. I don't know."
"Well. I don't know What to tell you." Frowned Abby.
"Listen. You never know What to say. You're useless." Abby made a face and crossed her arms obviously upset.
After a few months, Rebecca got to know Jonathan a bit better. It seemed kinda weird. She felt like she was happier with him, and she acted cuter when he was around her.
"I'm just saying." Smiled Jonathan, putting his arm around his close friend. "Being 2 years older than a person isn't too serious."
Rebecca's cheeks turned a soft red color through her beautiful darker skin tone. "Y-yea. I know that now.."
Their walking suddenly stopped once they reached the bus ramp. "Anyway, I should get going to my bus." Jonathan told Rebecca as he wrapped his arms around her, to give her a tight squeeze. "Have a great winter break.." mumbled the young girl, into Jonathan's shoulder. He smiled and let her go, heading over to his bus.
During the whole winter break, Rebecca thought about this feeling. This feeling that she couldn't really understand.
Did I like him? No. It felt more like love.
Once all of the students returned from the break, they all seemed super tired. "Yo, Rebecca." Called a familiar. Rebecca turned around and looked up at the one she claimed to love over break. "Hey Jona.." she said in a small voice. "How was your break? Were you thinking about me?" He joked, hitting Rebecca's shoulder with his fist. Rebecca's eyes widen at how casual he said it. "My break was nice. I hung with the fam." Rebecca replied, not answering the last question. "Oh. I shoulder get to class. Let's talk later." Rebecca waved and began walking.
For the whole week, she didn't talk to any of her friends or even Jonathan. She was thinking. She was confused.
After awhile of loving Jonathan so much, he didn't return her feelings. The years passed by quickly through high school and Rebecca lost interest. They grew closer, but it was more friendship for Rebecca now.
In college, Rebecca met another boy. They hit it off. After awhile of thinking about, they got married three years later. Rebecca had a beautiful girl named Shiro with her husband.
A year after having her daughter, Rebecca decided to treat herself and actually go out some more for a change.
Rebecca went out to the mall and shopped around a bit, to get some new clothes. When she was walking by the fountain in the middle of the mall, she saw someone familiar.
It was her old friend Jonathan.
Jonathan squinted his eyes and realized who was in front of him. "Rebecca?" He asked. "Jonathan! Hey! You look great Tbh."
"Whoa Thanks! You look.. stunning! Wow. You lost weight?"
"Yea." Rebecca said making a face. "You... seemed to have gained some.'
"Ha. Yea. I'll take it off later." Jonathan replied, smiling nervously.
"Well, uh. I'm going to go now.." Rebecca said, turning away. "Hold on a sec." Whispered Jonathan, taking hold of Rebecca's wrist. "Yes?" Rebecca asked with narrowed eyes. Jonathan quickly let go of her wrist and scratched the back of his head. "I actually want to ask you out for dinner tonight.. I- If you're free that is."
"Sure!" Rebecca answered quickly.
Jonathan smiled and whispered a small 'yes' under his breath.
Later on in the evening, Rebecca dress herself in a beautiful dress and natural looking make up. She took a few selfies then went out.
Where is he? Thought Rebecca as she put on a fake smile, frantically looking for her past love. She finally saw a hand waving her over to the table and she walked there.
"You look gorgeous Rebecca."
"Thanks. You look quite sharp yourself."
It felt a bit awkward between the two, since they haven't had a whole conversation in over 10 years. A waiter finally came over and handed them their food. "You ordered for me?" Rebecca asked.
"Yea. I.. remember you couldn't eat certain meats or seafood, so I ordered wisely."
Rebecca's face lit up at how good the food was. "You liked it?"
"Yes! Thank you." Rebecca responded, laying her fork down.
"Im glad." Jonathan smiled. The waiter came back and took our plates, laying a plate of cheesecake in front of Rebecca. "You remembered..."
"Of course." Jonathan smiled.
"Trying to get me fat." Rebecca mumbled.
Jonathan's eyebrows dipped, "What-?"
"Nothing, nothing~." Rebecca replied quickly with a smile.
Jonathan shook his head. "Anyway, I wanted to tell you.." He took a deep breath before he continued. "That I actually really liked you back in high school."
"Wow. Same. Hashtag retweet." Replied Rebecca.
"R-really?" Asked Jonathan, a bit surprised at Rebecca's quick and Honest response.
"Yea." The young girl nodded.
"Wow. Um. I don't know What to say.. uh." Jonathan seemed actually really happy it wasn't a one-sided love. He felt glad that the one he loved so much in high school, grew up to be a beautiful women.
"Hey. Rebecca." Jonathan called.
"Yes?"
"Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Rebecca held hers back from making a face. "The thing about that is-."
Just as Rebecca was about to explain, her husband walked through the door of the restaurant, holding their child, and walked over to her table. "Hey, hubby! This is Jonathan from High School. And Jonathan, this is my husband, Seung."
Jonathan held out his hand, awkwardly shaking the other man's hand. "Nice to uh. Meet you."
"Likewise."
"Mommy!" Called the cute daughter in the father's hands.
"She's been calling for you all day." Said Seung.
"I guess That's cue for me to leave! Bye Jonathan."
"Wa-wait." Before he could sort out his words, Rebecca was talking to the door. He noticed the ring on her ring finger which he never noticed before. "A ring??" He questioned out loud.
"Is it even on the right hand!?" He called out to her.
Rebecca left the restaurant and never looked back. Her life was perfect.
Even though she didn't end up with the one she thought she would.
Jonathan.
