Carter groggily opened her eyes, trying to remember what happened to her last night. The memories turned to faded, blurry images. You can say the alcohol has a mind of it's own because she was certainly not like this usually. All she can clearly remember is someone, a boy about her age, driving her home. She looked down on the floor to see the same boy asleep and shivering from the lack of blankets he had. She looked down at herself to see if she had any clothes on. Fluffy pajama bottoms grazed the skin of her legs and a plain white t-shirt covered her stomach and chest. She let out a sigh of relief. She thanked God that she didn't sleep with him. He is adorable for bringing her home but she would want to remember something like that, and maybe know the reason as she would turn out to be pregnant.
She squatted down to the boy who was still shivering on the floor and took a blanket from her bed, and laid it across his body. She stuck pillow under his head carefully so she wouldn't wake him. He snored softly in his sleep and his blonde hair was a bit of a mess. But it was adorable. She smiled faintly as she stood back up, noticing she had a massive headache.
I hate being hungover she said to herself as she walk into the brightly lit kitchen, which hurt her head and eyes to even look at. She sighed as she grabbed a Keurig cup and placed it in the machine. She's heard that coffee or water is the best cure for a hangover, and she was in need of a cure for it desperately.
The cold stone of the countertop of her kitchen table shocked her at first, feeling like ice against her back as she leaned against it. She clutched her coffee cup tightly as she hoped it would bring her out of this misery she put on herself.
She heard footsteps, much heavier than her roommate's, and she turned toward the direction that she heard them. She wasn't really surprised when she saw that it was the boy who innocently brought her home. She smiled faintly and he gave one back. As he came closer, she looked into his eyes and she couldn't look away. She was looking into a tiny ocean, his thoughts thrashing like waves behind his eyes.
"Morning." He said in a deep morning voice. His regular voice was probably not as thick as it was right now. He rubbed his eyes as he sat down at the island, sighing. Yup, he's half asleep, she thought to herself.
"Good morning." She replied with a smile and sipped her coffee. the bitter liquid burning her throat but also warming her entire body. She looked down at her feet, feeling her headache starting to drift away. "Thank you, by the way." she said, looking back up at him after an awkward silence.
"For what?" he asked, bringing his hands away from his face to look at her properly.
"For bringing me home safely, for not doing anything in my drunk state. Most guys would have taken advantage of that, but you didn't." She shrugged as she placed her mug onto the island. "And to thank you, I'm going to cook you whatever you want for breakfast. Now, what would you like to have?" she asked him, looking into his eyes again.
"You don't need to, I grew up with two older sisters who taught me to be better than that, not an animal, sex-crazed, boy. No woman deserves that kind of disrespect." He said, apparently waking up from his half asleep state.
"Wow, your girlfriend must be very lucky." She turned on the stove, hoping he would want something that was cooked on the stove. "And yes I do, because you're probably hungry."
"I'm not hungry actually. And I don't have a girlfriend."
"You're lying, every girl must want the attention and respect that you give them, along with the opportunity to stare into your eyes and get lost." She covered her mouth, realizing what she had just said.
"You think I have nice eyes?" he asked with a wide and bright smile on his face. His pearly teeth showed as he started to bite his lip.. Maybe it's a nervous habit of his.
"Yeah, kinda." She turned away as she felt the blood rush up to her cheeks and a nervous smile spread upon her face. How was one boy able to turn her into such a mess when she barely even knew him? I never caught your name either."
"Leonardo, but you can call me Leo" he stated quickly, that adorable smile still on his face.
"Well hi, I'm Carter."
"Nice to meet you, Carter." Leo said, his smile converting to a smirk. She really wished that she could smile all the time like him, but then again that would require her being happy all the time, which is close to impossible if you had a an abusive ex boyfriend like hers.
"I feel like I know you from somewhere, I've definitely seen you around campus." She said as she put the pan back into the cabinet. Her knobby elbows placed onto the cool stone, continuing to sip her bitter coffee.
"You've probably seen me in your Music Composition class and at the coffee shop a couple blocks down from here." His fingers fiddled with themselves in his lap; another nervous habit of his.
"How do you know that I have Music Composition as a course?" Frankie asked, slightly concerned for her own privacy.
"I'm also in that class, but I always sit in the back of the lecture hall." Leo explained and sighed, knowing that he sounded like a creep before his explanation.
"So that's why you seem so vaguely familiar." Carter grinned as she finally remembered how she knew him. Her mind still raced as to why he would drive her home and not anyone else. She was the party kind of girl, but she went only because her friend went and dragged her there. She probably would've passed out from the alcohol she consumed and someone would have used her for their sexually fantasy of some sort. Her body shivered at the thought as she pushed it to the back of her mind. "So, why did you bring me home safely out of all the girls that were at that party?" She asked Leo, sipping her coffee in small amounts and clutching it to her chest for its warmth.
A light flickered on down the middle of the hallway. Carter's roommate, Sage woke up apparently from her hangover. Carter could hear Sage groans and a walk down the hallway towards Carter and Leo. "The Beast is awake, and it's not even noon yet!" Carter said sarcastically, and Leo chuckled.
"Don't encourage her." Sage said in an almost comprehensibly groggy voice.
"You shouldn't let other people encourage you to drink more, you wouldn't feel this way." Carter shrugged and took a sip of her coffee, becoming close to finishing it. Sage just gave her a look that could possibly kill her if she didn't shut up now.
Sage looked over at Leo. "Where are my manners? Hi, I'm Sage." She gave Leo a small smile and a small wave.
Leo smiled back to her. "I'm Leo, nice to meet you," He said somehow politely.
"Woah, Sage is actually being nice to someone in the morning, this truly an amazing day." Carter laughed and placed her cup on the countertop. "What do you want for breakfast, both of you." She said as looked at the two of them.
"Bacon and eggs." both Sage and Leo said at the same time. They gave each other a weird look, Leo wore one of amazement, Sage wore one of just creeped out. Carter simply nodded and began to bring out the pans again to cook for the three of them.
