The late night glimmers with pouring cold rain. Not that Sparkling minded the rain, he even enjoyed it. Who wouldn't?
The bar was busy but not so busy, so, Sparkling kept conversations with his regulars behind the counter, cleaning glasses or assisting other customers.
"-she just glared at me! Honestly, how cruel of her part." Pondered Vampire cookie, taking sips of his grape-juice. He sighed and began to ramble and complain about his sister, once again.
Sparkling had no intention to be very close with any of his customers, he usually just heard and comforted his regulars if they were feeling down.
Mint Choco began to talk to Vampire and both men began their own conversation. Sparkling headed over to Rye cookie, who was requesting her usual bottle of Tequila.
"Here you you Rye, don't murder anyone."The door to the bar opened, Sparkling looked over to see if it was another regular who came by the late hours of the night. To his surprise, Expresso wasn't at the door.
Oh?The unknown person walked and seemed to be trying to locate someone.
"-ah! Herb! Over here." Called out Mint Choco.
"Ah, Minty!" The guy relaxed and walked over to Mint choco, greeting him and his friend Vampire Cookie.
"I thought you said you were busy, you liar!" Scoffed Vampire, half-ly joking by his insult."Sorry, the rain poured harder and I didn't want to walk home all soaked."
Sparkling had no idea who this guy was, but still offered him a drink.
"Hello! Is there anything you'd like to drink my friend?"
The unknown person glanced over to Sparkling, creating accidental eye-contact.
"Oh! Um, do you serve teas?""Pfft-"
"Vampire. Don't even start." Sighed Mint Choco."Ahehe, sorry, I don't serve teas but uh- I serve weak-alcohol drinks."
"Hm...what's your name? Mine is Herb."
"Huh? Oh its Sparkling."Herb smiled at looked over to the drinks behind Sparkling, where Sparkling stood,, waiting for his answer.
"What do you recommend me, Sparkling?"Sparklings eyes widened and felt his stomach flutter dreadfully, how strange.
"Hm. I recommend you either Mojito Mocktail or an Aperol Float." Quipped Sparkling, giving his usual smirk.
"I'll take an Aperol Float."
"Got it baby."
"JAHA! Baby?! Where in hell did you learn to blur that out to new customers?" Intoned Vampire. Even Mint Choco chuckled.
"Oh its not that serious, you're literally drinking grape juice, shut the hell up Vampire!" Said Sparkling, crossing one of his arms around his stomach and looking away.
"Geez, no need to be so rude." Whimpered Vampire and fake cried, creating more drama to a useless conversation.
Sparkling ignored him and began Herbs drink, while Herb watched his every single move. Sparkling had many customers stare right into his soul, especially when making a drink, but Herb felt more awkward. He felt nervous of fucking something up."Tadaa- Your Aperol Float." He scooted the drink to Herb through the bar table, internally hoping Herb will like the drink.
"Thank you! I've never drank anything with alcohol before, that's why Minty offered me to come here in the first place haha!"
Minty?
"Are you guys close friends?"
"Yes we are. We've known eacother since 2nd grade." Replied Herb as he picked up the fancy cup.
"By the way, your first sip might not be very pleasant." Informed Sparkling.Herb took his first sip. His very own first sip of alcohol. It made Sparkling feel nice and accomplished for some reason.
"Ack- m. Throat burns, im sorry." Herb cleared his throat, embarrassed.
"Haha, no worries, Herb."
Today was going to be a pleasant night.---
The night was came to an end, and the rain still poured heavily. Only Vampire, Mint Choco and Expresso were allowed to be after-hours. And well, you could say Herb was now a close friend of Sparkling.
"Well, I'm off everyone. I'm heading back home does anyone want a ride?..other than Vampire." Mint Choco announced to the two men in the bar.
"Uh- I want to stay a little longer." Herb said. "Plus, Im sure the rain will stop when I will leave." Reassured Herb. He didn't want leave just yet, hell no. And neither did Sparkling want him to leave either, hell no.
"Alright then, come along Vampire." Vampire followed Mint and said their goodbyes, and away they went.
In an empty bar, after-hours tasks to do, and alone with a cute guy."You don't mind me staying longer, right?"
Herb asked, unsure if he could stay or not."Of course you can stay." Smiled Sparkling, continuing cleaning some of the beer glasses.
And for what seemed hours, both men talked. Talked and Talked, Sparkling forgot to restock the ice or to clean the Cocktail glasses.
"Ah- I should get going now." Said Herb as he stood up. Watching the rain pour a little less harsh.
"Are you crazy? You'll get a cold if walk out now." Sparkling worriedly toned. It's only been 30 minutes since Vampire and Mint left.
"I keep distracting you idiot, I'll find a taxi somewhere." Aware that no taxis are available at 3:06 of the morning."Don't go yet! When I finish gathering the glasses and the um- boxes to the storage room, I'll give a ride!" Sparkling offered, seeming desperate, he didn't know why his tone sounded so desperate for him to stay. Idiot.
"You're so generous, Sparkling." Smiled Herb as he went to help Sparkling with the boxes.
Time flew and both men stood outside, Herb had a black suit jacket wrapped around him, a little bigger than his size but very comfortable. Sparkling was closing the doors, locking them up.
"Are you sure you don't want your jacket back..? YOU could catch a cold."
Sparkling grinned, "MY immune system could never let that happen." Both laughed and headed to the black car, not too far from them.
"Alright Herb, where do you live?"
"Ah do you know XXXXXXX valley?"How could Sparkling not know? His mother used to visit her best friend very often in that neighborhood.
"Yes, what's the adress?"
"House number is number 608. In XXXXX XX street."And both went along. The car ride was silent for the majority time-being, a comfortable silence though. The rain was such calmer in this side of town. The drops of water fell onto the car window, along with the wind from outside hitting the car. It was nice.
"Hey, Sparkling?"
Sparkling perked over and glanced at Herb for a few seconds and faced the road again. "Whats up?"
Herb was hesitant with his words. Not sure how to say them or how Sparkling could react.
"Um-nevermind. What's your phone-number?" Herb stared, pointing a finger to his phone.
"Its xxx-xxx-xxxx."
Herb quickly typed it in and added him to contacts. "Call me when you get home Sparkling. I like your voice."Sparkling was startled, blush rosed his face and his palms began to slightly sweat.
"I'll call you Herb, don't worry."Herb gave that damn smile again, that one smile that made Sparkling curse under a whisper. The car ride was once again, silent. A comfortable loving tension was filled in eachothers lungs, breathing in and breathing out, both were just happy one- another was present.
