Luette came to an unfortunate realisation that she could not Charms to save her life. Even after a few lessons, the calm Professor Flitwick still backed away in fear the moment his hopeful student raised the dreaded long stick.

"Bestie, how does one mess up a simple Lumos?"

"Shut up Pandora, I'm actually trying!" Luette huffed, her eyebrows furrowed in utmost concentration as she muttered the Lumos spell again, waving her wand haphazardly.

A blinding white flash erupted from its tip and hit the poor Charms professor right on the hat. His ear-deafening squeals echoed off the stone walls of the classroom as he desperately fanned the growing flames on his head, his wand lying forgotten on the teacher's table.

"I suck at this," Luette groaned, color rising to her cheeks as more than one Hufflepuff sniggered and shot glances at her.

"I agree!"

"I second that!"

"Me too!"

"Me three!"

"Yeah- wait! Aren't you guys supposed to be supporting me? What happened to loyalty?" Luette massaged her aching temples as Pandora patted her friend's back in a sorry attempt to comfort her.

Dorcus sent her a sympathetic glance from the front row. "Maybe try not waving your wand like you're trying to murder someone?"

Luette's eyes brightened at the suggestion. "Lumos," she mumbled, barely suppressing the urge to throw her wand out of the window. To her surprise, a faint, but still noticable beam of light appeared. She sent a triumphant glare at the Hufflepuffs who had laughed at her, as well as a grateful smile to the beaming Dorcus.

"Progress, my sweet summer child," Pandora clapped proudly.

"Friendship ended with you, now Meadowes is my new best friend!" Luette and Dorcus shared an exaggerated wink as Pandora dramatically dropped to the floor, gripping her chest in mock despair.

"Attention seekers."

Luette raised her eyebrows, unperturbed. She knew that beneath that deceptively gentle voice, was a hidden layer of animosity. The composed girl understood that with inconsequential provocation like these, silence had been proven many times to have the best results.

(But still, Luette found it very difficult to forgive Emmeline Vance for making fun of Pandora's protuberant eyes that morning. Everyone had their  insecurities, but people who took it out on and hurt others were truly hard to sympathize with.)

Flitwick, having finally put out the flames with an aguamenti charm, naturally dismissed the  Hufflepuffs early; the prevention of further unfortunate mishaps was paramount.

As everyone filed out of the Charms classroom, Luette noted with much satisfaction that a certain dark-haired girl looked as if she had just swallowed a toad.
