Jill arrived some minutes after Kai left. She was a young woman, had blonde hair and beautiful dark brown eyes.
I got to know her more. She was the woman from the wedding and not the only girl in this gang. There was another Girl. The other girls name was Kylie. She didn't come to the wedding because of some personal issues.
Jill was there and now she seemed happy to meet me. She was always smiling and told me how proud she was because Kai got married even though it would be dangerous.
I would be the perfect victim for his enemies. They could kidnap me and hold me to ransom. i knew that of course but I was stronger than anyone would think. Even without my gang I was unbeatable.
"It's beautiful. I wish I could marry my love", she beamed "You can be so lucky to have Kai. I know he isn't the oldest of the group, but he is like a big brother for all of us. He is perfect. You will see that he can make you very happy." She literally swarmed over him. I knew I shouldn't care but she swarmed over my husband. It was a sign for me that there was probably more between her and Kai.
"But let's go!", she exclaimed suddenly "We have to get your things."
Without another word she took her car keys and stormed out of the house. I took the key for my house and the one for the mansion that laid on my nightstand today morning.
I didn't say anything and followed her.
"Wow", she said while stepping in the house "This house is impressive. How can an innocent young gild like you affort that?"
Innocent? Yes that was exactly the word that could describe me and my past actions.
"Im a doctor", I shrugged "They pay me well. I cant complain."
And then there was the money I owned because of my other "job" but no one was supposed to know. Being a doctor was the perfect mask to hide behind. No one would doubt the story.
"Don't take too much stuff", jill explained "You can buy new things and you need some things here, if you want to come here sometimes."
"I can do that?", I asked shocked. I thought I was the bad criminals wife, that couldn't live her own life anymore. I lived in his mansion and doubted that I would ever come back. But them giving me the chance to come here again was perfect. That meant that I didn't need to find another hiding spot for my business stuff.
"Yes. You aren't a prisoner. Why would you be one?", she asked "If you do something that isn't right, we will have to... you know?"
I nodded and told her to wait for me while I was taking some things from upstairs.
I went to my bedroom and grabbed the biggest travel bag I had. I rushed to my walk-in closet and opened the big save in there. The first thing I grabbed was a box which could be locked with a password and my fingerprint. It was the box with my Rose in it. The only thing I could leave here. It was important to me and something I couldn't risk to be found, so I had to have it with me as much as possibly.
Right after I pushed the box in the bag, I heard steps. Jill came inside my closet and saw my save.
"Wow", she gasped "Why do you have this big save? I thought you are just a doctor."
"I am, but I'm also rich and I thought it would be cool to have it", I said abruptly. Having a save was a little bit suspicious but what should I do?
Telling her that I kept some things here, that could end her whole gang? Noooo!
"I just need some money, pajamas and some clothes. I think that's all", I said while grabbing the things and pushing them inside the bag, so Jill wouldn't see the box.
After we got everything, we went back to the mansion. The others weren't back yet so I went to my room and unpacked my things. The box stayed hidden in the travel bag, which placed in the walk in closet. I hid the back a little bit behind some shoes and hoped that no one would find it there. Kai would probably see it but he wouldn't think much of it.
It was evening and I was cooking when I heard the front door. Kai was back and came to the kitchen sighing.
"Sorry, I'm late", he said "I had to do some formal things after the mission."
I just nodded. Why would I care? He left this morning in a hurry and left me alone. Sure, I had Jill, but I didn't know her before.
"Can we talk?", he asked "The formal things were related to you."
"Me?", I asked shocked. Did he do research? Did he find something? So many questions were filling my head. I just hoped that he didn't find anything, that I wasn't careless or something.
"Yes. Here", he pushed a small card over the table. My eyes widened when I took it. It was... a card... with money?
"I know you don't want it, but I insist. You are my wife. I'm very, very rich. And you should be able to spend my money", he said.
"Oh? And I'm a doctor and I earn my own money", I snapped at him.
"You don't have to use it. Just keep it. It's yours." He really insisted. Of course I would never use it. I had enough money on my own.
But I pressed my lips into a thin line and nodded. It was better if I didn't fight back anymore.
"Good", he exclaimed "Besides this I want you to learn how to use a gun and I want you to learn how to fight. My enemies will be after you, so you have to defend yourself."
Shit!
How was I supposed to do this? I already knew all this. I had to pretend, that I didn't know anything. This wasn't going to be easy, but I had to do it. Otherwise, he would find out who I really was.
"Alexandria?", he asked all of sudden.
"No", I blurted out "Don't call me this."
"Huh? Why?"
"I... I... personal reasons", I stuttered and went out of the room, leaving him alone with the food.
Alexandria. I didn't hear that name since... I always was just Alex. For my mom. For other students. Even for teachers. I didn't like people calling me by my full name. THEY always called me by that name. Since I escaped, I didn't like that name. I reminded me of the awful years there and this one specific day.
I sat on the bed. Again, I would be going to bed without eating.
After some minutes, I heard a knock. Kai stepped inside with a plate in his hands.
"It's really good", he complimented the food I made by myself "But I shouldn't eat everything on my own. Here."
He placed the plate on the bed.
"I know you are still uncomfortable, but I can't let you get to sleep without eating. More then ever two days in a row." Did he really care that much? I was his wife, but that didn't mean that he had to care.
"Why don't you just kill me?", I suddenly blurted out.
His expression got cold again. Now he looked like the man I saw in my mom's living room. The cold, heartless gangster.
"I need you. That's all", he stated and left the room. the sudden chanche in his behavpise was strange. It seemed like he was hiding something from me. My inner shadow wanted to do research, to find out what his rela intentions were. But I had to stop myself. It would be too dangerous for my identity.
He needed me? Maybe it meant something. But I had a feeling that this wasn't what I expected.
Munching on the food I noticed that he was right. It was really delicious. It was cooked by me, of course it was tasty.
I tried to focus on complimenting myself just to distract myself, but his words were repeating in my head over and over again. Why would he need me?
This though was tiring, and I fall asleep soon, still wearing normal clothes. It maybe was uncomfortable, but I didn't realize it.
The next morning, I woke up in my pajamas.
Fuck!
He didn't dare to touch me, did he? I rushed down the stairs. I heard a female voice. It was Jill. She was laughing.
I rushed into the living room, without thinking. They were both sitting next to each other, chatting and laughing. Didn't they have work to do?
"Good morning!", Jill greeted me, smiling.
I just glared at them. Especially at him. He seemed shocked, seeing my anger.
"How did you sleep?", he asked gulping down his own salvia.
"Oh... deeply. I don't remember changing into my pajamas", I snapped.
"Oh, that was me", Jill interfered "He called me, so you would be comfortable. I helped you to change. I don't know either, why he didn't do it himself."
"It was you?"
She nodded.
Why was the thought of her changing me weirder than the thought of him doing it?
She was a stranger to me. I mean... he was a stranger to me too, but ...
What was I even thinking?
Both were strangers and not supposed to see me naked.
"Is something wrong?", Jill asked.
"I... I...", I stuttered "Next time let me sleep in my clothes, okay?"
"Okay", she said slowly not getting why I was behaving like that. I didn't know either. It was just weird.
We ate breakfast together. It was still early in the morning and today I had to go to work again.
It was nice. Better than staying at "home". Helping the people here helped me to forget about the other world I was a part of now.
But there wasn't anything special today. I had to calm my colleagues down because the guy with the bullet wound as gone. I told them that I informed the detective. Of course, it was a lie. I didn't have a choice. Kai would kill me and my mom, if I tell the truth to anyone.
Luke. That was his name. He got shot that day.
I just had normal patients today, which was relief. It meant that no gangs were having a war on the streets.
While I took a break in my office, Mina came in. She was a doctor in this hospital too. We were good friends. Now she came inside with the biggest smile on her face.
"Why are you smiling like an idiot?", I asked without even looking up from the monitor of my computer.
"I think I found someone", she said.
"No way", I exclaimed.
Mina was looking for a boyfriend for a long time now. She searched for the perfect man. The one she could become old with.
"Tell me everything!", I demanded.
"Okay. I was clubbing an-"
"Not again", I interrupted. She always went clubbing and came to work with a huge headache the next day.
"Let me talk", she continued "So I was clubbing, but I got bored very fast because there were only couples and getting drunk there alone wasn't an option. So, I went to a nearby bar. I ordered whisky and felt that someone was staring at me. I thought it was because of my short pink dress. After some time, it started to get cold and I was freezing a bit."
Wow. I rolled my eyes. Couldn't she just get to the point?
"Then I felt a jacked on my shoulders. I turned around and saw him"
Her eyes were sparkling at the thought of her dream man.
She was in this bar feeling the jacket on her shoulders, turning around and seeing him.
"Your legs are shaking", he said with a gentle voice. She backed away first, but he didn't make an attempt to get closer to her. He respected her worriedness.
"Let me guess", he continued "You went clubbing and there were only couples. Then you got here in hopes to drown your loneliness."
"How..."
"Well...", he cut her off "Same here. I came here to drown my loneliness."
"I don't think that you are feeling lonely", she snapped.
"You think so? Why?"
"I'm single for a long time now and every time I'm telling a man that I'm a doctor, he runs away, but if a man tells it to a woman they start to drool. Men can't be lonely."
"You are just a smart woman. You know that men that are running away from you aren't worth it and you have to wait for someone who accepts that you are smart. I'm lonelier. Look at me! I'm handsome, well built and charming. But no woman wants me."
"Maybe you just have to wait too", she laughed.
"Oh no I got a bonus", he chuckled.
"A bonus?"
"Oh yes", he exclaimed "My best friend got married today. It makes me feel lonely. He is much younger than I am."
They both laughed and chatted for the whole evening.
Later he drove her home and they exchanged their numbers, promising to meet again.
