I jolt awake from yet another nightmare. Urgh! I rip the duvet off, exposing my legs to the cool morning air. I slowly made my way over to my best friends bed, who was sleeping peacefully. He looks so cute when he sleeps. I shouldn't wake him. He deserves to rest. I look over to my alarm clock. 06:45. Kate should be up. I'll go talk to her. If not I'll watch the sun rise.
I carefully open and shut my bedroom door and walk down the hall to Tom and Kate's room. I am proven right when I see Kate scribbling away as she edited her first ever novel. I am very proud of Kate, how she manages thirteen kids and writing an amazing novel all at once. She is a very strong women and I can't think of a better person to have taken me in at my time of need. I hope that when I'm old enough and have my own family that I am as good as a mother as she is.
"Hey Kate." I smile sheepishly.
"Maddie! What are you doing up so early?" Kate smiles.
"I must have set my alarm to early, I didn't want to wake up Jake, and I couldn't get back to sleep so I came to see you. I hope that's ok." I didn't completely lie.
"Of course its ok! I'm glad you felt like you could come to me." I smile sheepishly, yet again. "How ya doing honey?" She asks.
"I'm fine."
"You sure?" She leans forward slightly to get a better look at me.
I nod before changing the subject, "So, how's your book coming along?" I walk over to her desk, but before she could answer, a very out of breath Tom came in.
"Hey! Good run?" Kate greets her husband.
"Oh yeah!" He sighs, deeply.
"Need a paramedic?" Kate smiles, earning a chuckle from me.
"No just a pair a knees, hey Maddie." Tom breathes out.
"Hiya Tommy Boy!" I laugh.
"How ya doing?" He asks.
"I'm fine." He nods.
"You finish?" Tom directs his conversation to Kate this time.
"Still proofing." She answers simply, whilst flicking through her pages. "but I'm sending it to Diane today." She continues with an excited smile.
Kate holds up her copy of the novel and says, "Look at this. New, clean cover. No peanut butter stains."
"Yet!" I add, earning a laugh from the couple.
"Hey Baby?" Tom says.
"Baby?" Kate smirks.
"HeY bAbY? bAbY?" I giggle while making fun of them.
Tom pulls me into him whilst rubbing my hair, before letting me go. Tom and Kate laugh, whilst I stick my tongue out at them.
"You know on the run, you know what I was thinking?" Tom asks.
"Oh god, do I need a new Pair of knees!" I deepen my voice, doing my best impression of Tom.
We all laugh, before Kate actually answers, "What?"
"Well we've been married what five years?"
"Twenty-three." Kate corrects while playfully rolling her eyes towards me.
He groans, "Twenty-three. Sorry. And I think we could use a little change around here." I tense at his words, "Like-like this lumpy old mattress." I relax at his words.
He stands up and sits on the bed, "Maybe we should just, you know, get rid of it."
Giggling erupts from the bed, "Don't be ridiculous honey. You know you can just pound the lumps out of a mattress." Kate states, playing along with Tom's game.
"What- what do you mean? You can just pound the lumps out of a mattress?"
"Yeah, just randomly start swatting away." Kate tries to keep a serious face.
"And it goes flat?"
"Yes, Yes." Kate smiles.
"Just start- you just randomly start swatting-" Tom starts hitting the bed whilst laying back on the bed, making all the little kids that were under the blanket laugh and pile on top of their Father.
I smile before leaving the room to wake up my best friend. On my way up, Gunnar ( the family's dog) bolted past me.

"Jake~ " I coo, trying to wake him up. "You got to get up buddy." I whisper sweetly in his ear.
He groans, "Mads? Are you ok?" His voice is muffled in his pillow but I still understood what he was saying.
"I'm fine, Jakey. But you need to get ready for school." I smile.
"Okay..." He smiles before falling back asleep .
I push him. Nothing.
Blow air in his face. Nothing.
Flick his ear. Nothing
Mess with his hair. Nothing.
Finally, I lay on top of him and put all my weight on him, laughing earning a laugh from him. He rolls over, pushing me off him on the other side of the bed in the process. We both lay there laughing for a while, until we make eye contact with each other. He gently pushes some of my blonde hair behind my ear, as the two of us sat in a comfortable silence. The silence was abruptly interrupted by the door bursting open...
"Maddie, Jake! Dad said you n- Ooo~, what's going on here?" Charlie asks wiggling his eyebrows at me.
Charlie was definitely like a big brother to me. He is there for me when I need him to be. Obviously I'm not as close to him as I am with Jake but he's a close second. Sometimes we will just sit down and he would talk to me about whatever was on his mind and I'd listen and on the rare occasion I would briefly tell him how I was feeling but not going too much into detail. I only fully open up to Jake, and I'm happy with that.
"Nothing Char, I was trying to wake up Jake but he wouldn't budge, until I laid on top of him." I laugh at the thought.
"Are you sure? You two looked pretty cosy when I ruined your little moment." He smirks.
"Shut up!" I blush and threw a pillow at him, he hides behind the door before he could get hit and laughs.
"Come on Lovebirds! Get ready for school!" He calls to us.
"Yeah, Yeah!" I call back.
I get out of Jake's bed and swiftly make my way over to my closet, trying to pick out an outfit for the day.
Once I found an outfit, I looked over at Jake, who was slowly rolling out of bed and then fell onto the floor, earning a laugh from me and soon enough he joined in laughing.
