I took a deep breath. The environment was serene, clean and beautiful. The sound of water rushing from the waterfall felt so therapeutic. I adjusted my mat and laid down once again and closed my eyes. The scent of vanilla and lavender filled my nostrils. I smiled,the candles were still burning. After a short nap, I glanced at my wristwatch. Time was far spent. I stood up and put off the candles , folded my mat and blankets and then placed them in the basket. I sat on the bench. I stared at the young couple afar off, too busy sucking each others lips to notice that everyone was watching.
"I am guessing this is your favorite place in the whole world" I looked towards the direction that the voice had come from, I was startled by the sudden intrusion, "I am sorry to disturb you, my name is JJ" "Hello, it's nothing at all, and to answer your question, yes, yes, this is my favorite place in the entire universe" He sat on the floor just like I did, "Same as me. I have been coming here every day since it was open" I looked at him, "Are you serious?" He let out a chuckle he must have been struggling to hold, "Ofcourse not, I only found out about this place a month ago" I laughed too. He talked about how he loves to stare at the sky at night and watch the stars twinkling. " Wow, that sounds wonderful. Stargazing is on my bucket list." "You should try it sometime" "Definitely" He pointed at some children bathing in a pool nearby, we both laughed as they happily played around.
I looked over his features with my side eye. His light blue hooded tank stuck to his body showing off a set of abs,he was dark skinned and gosh was he handsome or what but I couldn't get over the feeling that I had seen him somewhere, maybe in my past life. Just then, an all too familiar Lil Nas X 's Industry Baby filled my ears. I placed the phone to my ear, "I will be out soon" I fastened the lid of the basket and stood up. "That must be your cue to go" JJ said smiling, "Yep" As we walked through the park, JJ cracked jokes and I couldn't but laugh. "Are you always this funny?" "Do you want to find out? Why don't we hang out again, next week Saturday?" "It's a date." "Well, in that case, I will text you the address"
As soon as he gave me back my phone, Dele beeped the horn again, "Madam, let's go" "Your brother is so impatient" I laughed, "Don't let him hear you" He hugged me and pecked me on the cheek, I was caught unawares. "I am sorry, it was sudden" I blushed"It's okay" I dropped the basket in the backseat of Dele's Toyota Tacoma and took my seat in front. "It's about time" I rolled my eyes,"Just drive" . I waved at JJ as Dele started his engine and pulled out of Aquarius Park.
"Is that why you go to the park more often of recent?" Dele's question brought me back to the present. "What do you mean? If you are referring to JJ, I only just met him so don't jump into conclusions"I turned away and smiled.I like those conclusions. "If you say so"Dele added before beeping his horn so the gateman would open the gate. "Hello sweetheart, would you like to have dinner now?" I jumped at Aunty Ewa. She held me tight, "I have missed you too sweetheart"Just then her phone rang," A moment please sweetheart" I went upstairs to change my clothes and stopped by dad's study to greet him, just in time to hear me drop a call, "Love you too Chelle" Now the question on my mind is " Who is Chelle?"
