Mia's Backstory

"What happened before now, Mia Willis?" He asks smiling, making me smile as well. ~ I hesitate at first, but then decide to go ahead and tell him my story.

"My parents have kept me locked up in the house my whole life, all the while, I was being abused in every sort of way" Tears gather in my eyes and I avoid his gaze.

"Physically, mentally, emotionally, verbally... even though I tried to reach out for help, nobody would believe me or help me. So I suffered for 18 years, being beaten, starved, raped, tortured-"

"-um, my parents were seen as 'good people' like what I mean is they were all involved in the church, my father was a Judge- so he was well respected- and my mom was doing exactly what we women do-"

"-she stayed at home and did the housework just like a wife should. My momma was well respected, everyone loved my parents. But, I was the only one who was absolutely nothing-"

"-I was never talked about, never brought up, or asked about, my mother insisted on keeping me locked up in my room unless emergency. Which was serious emergency-"

"-and by serious emergency I mean, the rare occasions when someone did ask about me, when I needed to be seen or someone would think I was dead, my elementary school graduation, basically major things-"

"-When that did happen, I had to wear a fancy dress, do my hair, you know things like that. But, my parents made sure to cover up my bruises so that they wouldn't show. If anyone noticed anything, they would just say that I fell off my bike. What nobody noticed was that... I didn't have a bike-"

"-anyway, um, I remember this one time-" I start, getting tears in my eyes, not knowing if I can continue. "-I had been getting sick a lot, it wasn't normal for me. So, um, my parents took me to the doctors and found out... I was pregnant" I look at him and tears start streaming down my face.

"They didn't want that, and so they decided to change it. Themselves. In their own way. In a way I just can't even describe. But, it was just absolutely awful! I've never been in so much pain in my life, even when I was running here and passing out at your doorstep-"

"-I can't count how many times I tried ending my life there, but I never succeeded. We, of course, had a doctor in the family that was living in the house, so it never worked out-"

"-but, I guess I'll miss my parents even though they did all that to me" "They're your parents it's natural" "Yeah, yeah I guess so"
