"Do you have to go?"
"Selene, you know I do. As much as I don't want to."
Edrium is a country wracked with war. The war had not stopped since the two hundred years when it started. The humans, attacked by elves sparking tensions between nations, began to retaliate. However, the elves who survived began their own nations. The elven nations created were stronger and smarter than the previous ones. Now, the war wages on. The humans created jobs to hold their own against the elves. The hunters were tasked with the elimination of them. Once an elf was caught in their sight, they were never seen again.
The hunter profession consists of twenty men per village and one hundred per city. In a city, fifty of them are to guard the city and fifty of them are active hunters. In a village, Ten of them are only to guard the village and the other ten are active hunters. The active hunters are dispatched in the event there is another war. Some villages do not take much part in the ongoing war due to their need to send exports to the Capital which has the most hunters and is being attacked the most. Elysia is one of those villages.
Elysia is a smaller village known for its exports of wood and meat. The Woodcutters and Hunter jobs are at their peak. All positions are filled. It's day 5 of the Emerald moon of year 608 and it's the 19th birthday of the twins James and Jackson Lockhart, sons of the best hunter in the village and of the general's daughter. On the 19th birthday, people get told what job they will be doing, who they will be married to, and what house they will live in. The twins are treated nearly as royalty due to the rarity of twins in the village. Despite the twins being identical, their personalities are directly opposite of one another. James is more outdoorsy and takes after his dad who trained him in Hunting while Jackson is more of a homebody and stays inside with his older sister and cooks.
These brothers have been raised and educated very well and in very similar manners. When chaos strikes their village these two brothers will go very different paths. Hey, all's fair in love and war, right?
