"OH MY GOD, IS THAT VINNIE HACKER !?"

i whipped my head around to see two girls frantically walk into the milkbar. excitement and shock scattered their faces. my eyebrows raised when i turned to vinnie, he seemed to pale at my confused face.

the two girls scurried towards us and that's when vinnie stood to meet them. they embraced him so hard, i wouldn't be surprised if they were boa constrictors in disguise.

the girls looked at least sixteen, maybe younger. one was blonde with twin brains on both sides of her head and the other was black with bangs, her hair was left to it's own demise it seemed. they both wore similar outfits, like they were copies from a printer but one just ran out of ink; baggy band-shirts, ripped jean shorts and vans with plain accessories.

i bet they don't even know who nirvana is.

"can we pleaseeee take a photo with you !?" the blonde girl screeched, already throwing her phone in vinnie's face like he had already said yes, he nodded with a shy "sure thing" afterwards.

i wanted to say something, i wanted to say that vinnie didn't have to take a photo with these girls if he didn't want too but, as soon as my mouth opened, one of the girl with the bangs shot a glare towards me so i slammed my lips together and looked down at my food.

"who's that girl vinnie ?" when a few photos were taken, the blonde girl had spoken with defensiveness. while i twirled a chip around on my plate i literally felt vinnie struggle to compute an answer so i perked my head up and spoke without my conscious present: "i'm a friend of vinnie's, is that a problem ?"

they looked at me like i just killed their dog. shocked, their mouths scrambled along with their brains.

"o-oh n-no ! no ! we were just wondering ! that's all !" they exclaimed as i rolled my eyes.

"sure, sure. now, isn't your mum waiting for you in that shit-box of a toyota corolla ?" my head nodded towards the window, i simply took note of the cars lined up beside the street. i doubt the corolla actually was one of their mother's. it was the first car that came to mind.

the girls were gobsmacked, so was vinnie. thoughts put into words were stripped from them and vinnie awkwardly gave the blonde her phone back. red slapped their entire faces and they awkwardly walked away from the both of us.

vinnie stood for a long two minutes, staring at me. that's when the lightning of panic struck at my lungs and stomach.

oh god did i do something wrong ? was that not the right thing to do ? i'm so sorry vinnie i'm so sor-

"you're a different breed of girl huh." my eyes followed at he settled himself back into his seat. his shoulders relaxed, hands grabbing the burger once more.

"what ?" i asked, dumbfounded, my eyes widened and i felt my mouth fall slightly. how his expression washed from awkwardness and surprise, it was now relaxed and amused even.

"you, bunny, are a different breed of girl." he repeated then took a bite of his burger. he smirked as he did.

"oh - um...well i - " now my own brain was failed to compute words. apparently my flustered brain was humorous to vinnie, so he just chuckled more.

as we continued to eat, we conversed as well. i learnt vinnie enjoyed gaming, having the entire pc get up that he worked hard to achieve. he trained for a boxing match too and won, he said it was one of his biggest achievements besides his cars.

while all of it was great, when i tried to ask about the two girls who frothed over him like he was a celebrity, he tried to brush it off saying "oh don't worry about it, it was just when i was boxing"

something within me knew it was a very short answer to my question. i wanted to press more about it due to my nosiness but, clearly he seemed off about that area of his life.

i wonder why though.

when we finished our food, vinnie paid and tipped the employee that was nice to us. i waved to her and said thank you and followed vinnie to the outside world.

the sun had settled. pink, oranges and yellows flushed through the sky, giving warmth to the atmosphere. it was beautiful.

"your carriage awaits, madam." vinnie metaphorically hooked me in, i followed his voice and saw how he impatiently waited for me on the passenger side, door open and waiting for me to be seated.

butterflies erupted in my stomach like a soft volcano. i didn't understand his gentlemen mannerisms. it felt nice, it felt weird, only because i was never exposed to this sort of thing, it was like a gentle kind of gamma radiation.

hopefully it doesn't make me become a superhero or something. i can't have that responsibility.

i walk to him, climbing inside and attaching my seatbelt to its buckle. i watched him walk to his side of the car and he got in, following my actions and clicked the seatbelt in its place.

the drive was quiet. the radio station blabbered on about the weather and some news topics, nothing important.

i looked at vinnie and as soon as i did, i saw his brown orbs glance at me. heat rose to my cheeks and i never whipped my head around so quickly to look outside the window.

i felt his smirk. even if i wasn't looking at him anymore, it's like my spider senses were tingling all over again.

"so, what's your address ?" vinnie disturbed the silence, and instead of just focusing on the radio, my ears tuned into the sound of his voice. it was like i was deaf to everything but him.

"it's...*inserts address*"

he nodded and kept driving. silence was upon us again. i think i may have scared him, maybe.

i glanced at him once he stopped the car in front of my house. i bit my lip, patting my pants to make sure i didn't leave my phone at the restaurant or anything else important.

nope, we're good.

"thanks for the lunch. i...haven't actually gone out in a long time." i smoothed my hands down to my knees. he looked at me and smiled, nodding. "me too actually. i'm sorry about those girls but...uh - don't worry about it okay ?"

you're speaking to the wrong person about that, vinnie.

"no promises." i answered, and i opened the passenger's door. before i got out though, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me so i stared at him straight in the eyes.

i gulped.

"take your time working on my car alright ?" he said abruptly. i felt as though there was more meaning to it but i was confused as to why.

"we'll see." i smiled "goodbye vinnie. thank you again."

with that, i got out. he let go of my wrist and suddenly i missed the warmth his hand held. i closed the door, walking across the fresh cut lawn to my front porch. i heard vinnie's car leave and suddenly i wished he was still here.
