Curiosity Killed the Cat

                The rest of the week went by slowly, the nights even slower. Nightmares were a constant. I'd wake up, screaming, short of breath, like I just ran a marathon. I'd try to go back to sleep, but the nightmares would just resume. School was even more hell than ever from the lack of sleep. I was continuously getting yelled at for falling asleep during lectures.

                It was finally Friday, I walked out of school, deciding to go back to the forest once more. I hadn't gone since Monday. Something in the back of my mind told me it was a bad idea. I went against my mind and walked to the path. I didn't listen to my music this time and payed extra attention to every detail. I don't know what I was looking for, but something gave me the creeps about this place and I wanted to find out why.

             After about an hour of searching the relative area, for...whatever I was looking for, I decided to relax for a bit. I climbed a tree, leaning against the trunk for support on the branch and pulled out the last of my homework to get it out of the way.

~~~~~
                Finishing up the homework, I put it back in my bag and pulled out my earbuds, getting bored of the chirping of birds and the wind. I zoned out to the music, creating scenes in my head before finally dozing off.
~~~~

                Once I awoke, it was dark. My heart immediately started racing. Partly from my paranoia coming up with everything that could possibly go wrong, and partly from knowing what a screaming at I'd get when I got home. I climbed down the tree, slipping when I placed my foot in the wrong place. I hit the ground, hard, landing on my back. Branches and twigs snapped under the weight and echoed throughout the forest.

                I cursed, standing up, shaking. I pulled out my phone. 9:38 PM, 3 unread text messages, and 2 missed calls from Mom. Oh no... I texted her back, saying I'd be home soon, making a quick excuse for why I wasn't home in the first place.

                The forest was eerily quiet, no animals were making any noise whatsoever. Probably scared 'em off when I fell. I assumed, making my bay back to the path I took home. I looked around, nervously, trying to catch a glimpse, or hear any sound of life other than the wind rustling the leaves.

                I heard crunching of dead leaves nearby, taking comfort in some sound, then realized those sounded like  person walking. I froze. Step...step...step...step. It sounded like whoever it was walking was, One. Coming closer. Two. Trying not to make much sound.

                I began to panic, but didn't know if running was the best idea. I'm probably fucked. (and fucked you are, my friend.) I slowly turned my head in the direction of the crunching, not getting a good look at the guy before I was slammed into the nearest tree. My head cracked against the bark, making my vision go blurry.

                Before I could scream, a large hand grabbed my throat, pushing me against the rough trunk. I tried to get a better look at him, but the way he was holding my neck didn't allow much movement without suffocation. What I did see, though, out of the corner of my eye, was what seemed like a knife. I quit struggling and accepted whatever was coming. I didn't  care too much, I just hoped it would be quick and over with.

                The man loosened his grip for a moment. I could see a little bit more of him now. It was dark, so I couldn't see much, but I saw long black hair. I covered his eyes and he was wearing a hood. When I tried to get a better look he tightened his grip again, limiting my air supply to gasps. I remained still.

                I noticed the knife move closer to me, soon feeling the cool metal against my stomach. This isn't going to be a fast death. I would've sighed if my airway weren't mostly blocked by his hand. "Go....t-to...sle-... Hell woman!?" I flinched. "Why aren't you struggling, or crying or...something?" He yelled, letting go of my throat, but kept me against the tree.

                "Well why aren't you killing me? You were going to weren't you?..." He seemed confused even though I couldn't see his expression. He slowly raised the knife to my throat, I lifted my chin, accepting my fate.
