“Mom, I’m home!” I yelled into the kitchen as I was taking off my jacket. “can I go to the movies with my friends?”

“you just got home from detention! NO!” yelled my mom from the kitchen.

“But mom!... it’s Abby’s birthday, and all of us have been dieing to see this movie for a while now!” I complained

“No means no.” said my mom without looking up at me and continued to chop  the vegetables for dinner.

“Pleeeeeeeeeease? I’ll pay for my own ticket” I begged

“What did I just say?” said my mom.
By the looks of things she seems to be getting frustrated, one last attempt should do. She will probably just say yes for me to shut up like the last time I wanted to go out. I thought. “mom pleeeease let me go I’ll wash the dishes and wash the laundry too!” but she ignored my bargain and continued cutting the vegetable as if I wasn't there at all. “mom! are you listening?...... mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom,  mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mo-” she then stuck the knife within the wooden cutting board with a thud, and look up at me with a venomous death glare, as if she was saying: “I had said NO! Now leave my sight!”

“...What kind of mother doesn't let her child celebrate her best friends birthday!?” I yelled at my mom. Then I turned away from her full of rage, and stomped my way up the stairs to my bedroom. Then I slammed the door shut separating myself from the outside world around me.

“Why can't she just let me go out for today then ground me for the rest of the month. does she not understand that Abby is my best friend or something? I’ve known her since kindergarten for crying out loud!” I thought to myself. Then my phone buzzed. I glanced over and saw it was Abby. “Just on time” I thought.

I punched in the pattern and read the message,”Can you go?”

I hesitated before responding. “I can just sneak out, and no one will know...but then if I get caught I’ll get in trouble…...eh, why not I’m already grounded as it is.” I thought.

“Of course I can go. My mom said that as long as I’m not home too late.” I responded.

A few seconds later and Abby responded “AWESOME! :)”

“:) So who else is going?” I texted.

“Lisa, and my older sister. My mom said that we can't go out by ourselves, and that we were even lucky to be let out on a school night.:) :) :)” She texted almost immediately.

“cool :)” I responded “So what time is the movie?”

“ It’s @ 10, so be ready we’ll go pick you up:)” she texted as soon as I sent my message.

“No that’s ok, I’ll meet you at your place, you're not that far from my home, it’s like what a half a mile away from your place? Just worry about getting to Lisa’s place, she lives super far.” I responded as soon as I finished reading her message.

“Ok. see you then, and don’t forget your pepper spray just in case:)” She texted.

Then I heard my mother yell up the stairs penetrating my shield from the other side of the world “Dinner!” I opened the door and stomped down the stairs once more. When I arrived in the kitchen I saw that my father was home and my little sister was back from basketball practice. I then served myself and sat down at the farthest seat at the end of the table away from everybody, especially my mom. I avoided all contact with everybody, trying to blend into the wall as if I wasn't there from the start. I zoned everyone out as if I were stuck in outer space. But that didn't work.

A few minutes later, I started to hear something in a far distant land, of what sounded like muffled voices. Then my dad dragged me back to reality and he yelled my name ‘ELLIANA!”

I then looked up at him and responded “ What?’ with a serious tone.

“ I said how did your day go today?” He responded more calmly.

I stared at him blankly “Seriously? That’s why you decided to yell in my face, just to say how was your day?” I thought. Then I responded “Good, up until I got blamed for causing a food fight at school, then I sorted it out with the teachers, but I still kinda got in trouble because I almost started a fight with the kid who blamed me. So I have no recess for the rest of the week, which there is like only two days left in the week. Then I asked ma’ if I can go and celebrate Abby’s birthday and she said no! It was like my day is going great, then to not so bad, then to horrible, and finally,  to worse than worse.”

“That’s not all” interupted my mom. “Your advisory teacher called me to say that you put the face of the kid who blamed you into the toilet, and that you would be having detention today.”
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME! She knows about that!” I yelled in my head. I looked down in shame and turned away from my fathers attention.

“Someone’s in trouble” said my little sister Cindy.

I shot her a death glare and said “Shut it” and she went mute for the rest of dinner.

“Is this true” he said slowly. I nodded my head. “Well you’re grounded until further notice.” He said with a serious tone.

“I kinda figured that out, the wicked witch of the west wouldn't let me go and celebrate my best friends birthday. Who does that!” I said with a slight rise in my voice.

“I am not a witch, I am your mother!” yelled my mom.

“What’s the difference? You both look and act the same!” I yelled

“Watch your tone with me young lady!” yelled my mom in response.

“Some “mom” you are! Look at you, you are yelling at your daughter! What an amazing example for your beloved children.” I yelled sarcastically.” A real mom would let her daughter go out to celebrate her friends birthday, and then ground her!”  Then I stood up, pushed my dish across the table and started my way up the stairs.

“You come back here and apologize to your mother!” yelled my dad

“Why should I? You know it’s true! You’re the one who married that foul creature of a mother!” I yelled in his face. Then I continued my journey up the stairs. Once I reached my room I slammed the door shut separating myself from the outside world once again. I then turned on the T.V and put on some random movie until I heard Cindy knock on the door

“Eli, ma’ said it’s bedtime, so turned off the T.V” she said.

I turned it off, and got ready. I put on my favorite green  top, and the most comfortable jeans I had. Then I took out my Ipad and put on the same movie as before, on Netflix, just to be sure everyone was asleep when I left.
