Hermione woke with a start, it was Saturday, her birthday. There was an owl impatiently tapping at the window with a parcel. She let it it and it landed on her bed waiting for a treat, obliging she gave it one and watched as it fluttered off. Hermione opened the letter first.

Dear Hermione,

Firstly we want to wish you a happy birthday, you've grown to be a wonderful young lady. Your father and I have been thinking and we decided to tell you about your birth.

We had been trying to conceive for years you see, one evening at a doctor's appointment I was informed I was infertile. We we're a wreck. That's when we found Synthia, she was 8 1/2 months pregnant, her husband had died and she didn't want to raise a baby herself. So we adopted you before you were even born. It was Synthia's wish you be called Hermione. She died shortly after giving birth with just two strangers to morn.

We want you to know that you'll always be our daughter and we do love you very much. Once your headmaster said you were getting bullied for being muggle born we got worried. We've been talking about telling you for years but now feels like the right time. We hope you're not cross with us but we will understand.

Love always,
Mum&Dad

She blinked a few times. She....she wasn't a Granger. She moved on to the package which held a picture of her mum and dad with a woman who looked identical to Hermione, save the nose. It also had a fancy blouse that looked like it held a large belly at some point and lastly a book of wizard anatomy with an ultrasound picture, Hermione's name written in neat cursive. Fawley was in the top corner along with the date. She didn't have much time to think before there was a mock on her shared door, a few moments after McGonagall opened it.

"Miss. Granger the headmaster would like to see you when you're dressed deary," she waited for Hermione's nod and closed the door again. What could the headmaster want on a Saturday at 9 in the morning? She tossed a pair of jeans and a tee with a Weasley sweater on. Hers was a dark blue with a grey 'H' on it.

"You wanted to see me sir?" There was a goblin standing uncomfortably beside the headmaster's desk, Hermione was sure the old man was telling him about sweets or speaking in weird proverbs.

"Yes have a seat Miss. Granger, I am to assume your parents have been in contact? Happy birthday by the way, 16 is a good year," he said with a wink. She nodded in response and the goblin cleared his throat. "Ah, yes, this is Hevway, he is going to be pricking your finger." The goblin only took a drop of her blood on a long peice of parchment. "Your grandfather-"

"He was the Minister of magic, wasn't he, I thought he didn't have children." She watched at words appeared on the goblins paper.

"Yes well, Minister Fawley was a very secretive man, they say he had 3 wives. Rather curious he didn't have an heir isn't it?" He looked different than normal, Hermione could imagine him looking at Harry like this after his name got pulled last year.

"You're certain?" Dumbledore chuckled lightly.

"No one is certain of anything Miss. Granger, the future is ever changing, one does best not to dwell on the past." The goblin was pulling things out of a bag and placing them on the table.

"Did you know them?" She asked quietly, the wise man took a deep breath.

"Synthia and Osiris went to Hogwarts, Synthia was a Ravenclaw and Osiris was in Slytherin. They were inseparable after a chess match in Professor Binns class, before he died of course. Their last year at Hogwarts Osiris was being pestered by Voldemorts followers, he ended up joining after your mother got pregnant. He was only a deatheatter for two months when he...well he took his own life." Hermione felt the tears well in her eyes. "Your mother locked herself away, no wich or wizard knew where she went. I'm terribly sorry you're just finding out about this, it's what she wanted." Hermione could only nodd and ferociously wipe her tears away.
