The next morning was very quiet and peaceful and I ended up falling asleep again not waking up until after two p.m.

I was just starting to wake as I heard fits of giggles outside my door. I quickly rolled over and shut my eyes, NOT wanting to be disturbed. Sadly I didn't want hard enough and Phil barged into my room wearing a lion suit and a camera taped on top his head.

I yelped in surprise and fell off my bed. I hit my head on my night stand causing a sharp headache. "Phil, what the fuck are you doing?"

He only laughed in the doorway. His face was getting red with laughter. I wanted to say his laugh was cute, but it reminded me too much of Phan and I tried to push the thought away. But... It kept surfacing.

The way he laughed was like music and he was so immature. The lion suit was adorable, I had to admit. But, no homo, though. Phan is weird. But.... Then why does Phil looks so cute today?

"Surprise!" He shouted.

"What are you doing and why?"

"Happy birthday!" He shouted, reaching in his pockets to throw confetti at me.

"Wha-" Then it hit me. "My birthday..."

Phil face went blank. "Oh my god Dan. Did you seriously forget your own birthday?"

"N-n-no! I r-remembered, I was just up late last night..." Thinking of you I wanted to say. "Last night... editing... videos.." Ugh, what a lame excuse.

"Well, we're going to do something special for your birthday. I'll take you out to that fancy italian resturaunt downtown. My treat, I'll pay."

"The subway was hell," I muttered as the waiter sat us at the table. The restraunt was lit by dim light and tables were set up all around the room. Soft classical music floated through the restraunt. It was filled with people who were all seated at tables for two.

Then I realized all the tables were meant for two.

And then I realized everyone had come here with their...dates. Couples were visiting this place... for dates. I nervously scanned the room and nobody seemed to be looking at us. I gulped as I sat with Phil.

"Thats just because you're socially akward," he replied.

"Wow, thanks a lot, Phil." I joked. When the waiter brought our menus, I noticed that there was a lot of whispering around us. I looked up and saw a handful of couples pointing and whispering at us. I tensed when they got embarrased when they noticed I was looking at them.

"Hey, look over there. Are those two men on a date?"

"Look it, I think those two boys are dating."

"Oh my lord, are those men gay?"

"No, don't look at them. It's unholy to even make eye contact."

"Hey," Phil said to me. "Don't let it get to you. So what if they think we're gay? There's nothing wrong with it. After all, were only friends."

When he said "only friends" it hurt me inside. But why? We were only friends. Why was I suddenly mad? "Okay," I said, not looking up at him. "Just friends. I understand."

The horrible whispers continued and some people even made their opinions voiced. A man walked past our table and muttered "homos". Everybody's eyes were on us. Phil was starting to feel the pressure, as he glanced from table to table and couldn't escape the eyes of the crowds.

Even the waiters were staring. They were all bussing tables but their eyes were glued to us. That's when it hit me. All waiters were serving other tables. Our waiter had handed us our menus, but never returned.
