ELOISE

I wished for skin that no longer bled from the weight it carried, skin that didn't lay as a home to cold veins. What use was it to harbor blood if it would only end up shedding? I wished for a break from the world that found ways of caving in on me now and then, away from the stains that etched their way into my mind. A life made up of a reality I was tired of living, dreaming of the day I would finally be able to slice apart the suit of flesh that hung from me, right down the lick of my spine, allow it to drop to the ground and exchange it for another, slip another set from the closet, all to escape the haunting of the past; it would be a miracle to make it out alive.

Better days were long behind me, caught within the fog that kept me away from the person I once knew. I couldn't reach back for them, for him, even if I strained. There were far too many days and weeks, and months layered along one another. I could remember those better days, I could recall the girl I recognized at one time, I could still see my brother, taste our memories on the tip of my tongue if I tried. There was no use in trying to reignite a flame that was burnt out from the flood of the past.

The life I had once known had been silent for some time now, so quiet that I had lost all hope in its return. A faded girl waiting for the sight of her brother to run clear again, a family that wished to be whole, a light that only seemed to know the act of dimming itself as time suffered forward. The world and I spoke on occasion, never with the same taste in mind, reminding me of the truth I hadn't found time to believe in, the line that found a bitter comfort in the back of my throat; good people don't always get what they deserve.

Ignite these lies, feed them to me like they're real, perhaps these nightmares will believe them one day.

𐎀Hello, my spooky friends! This story is back & ready to pick right back up where it left off. Purely out of my fall / Halloween vibes I have going on. I LOVE Halloween & horror movies all year around.

Thought on this chapter?
(I know this prologue is very short, but I planned it out that way! Just a bit of a look into the mind of Eloise, introducing her character a bit, & getting into the vibe of the story!)

Are you a fan of the House of Wax movie?
(If you're reading this story, I hope you've been able to watch the movie! I absolutely adore this movie, I love the cast, & I love the town of Ambrose. It's such a comfort film for me. I'm very excited to bring my love for the movie into this story & share it all with you!)

𐎀 This is just in time for spooky season, especially since Halloween is right around the corner lol. This book was my ultimate spooky season escape, so I'm excited to get back into it & dig into the characters again! I truly hope you're all excited!
