Time went by rather quickly for Kal. The other Survivors generally avoided him after he told him of what he did to Frank and that guy Evan. There were a few that kept him good company, specifically Leon, a girl named Jill Valentine, and the old guy, Bill. They loved to tell stories of their times in combat before being brought here, and were very curious as to what training that Kal could have gotten to impress the Entity so much.
"I'm just an Ex-SEAL. The only thing is that I'm not afraid to be brutal," is the only answer they get, though they can't shake the feeling that there's more to it than just that.
There have been three Trials since the rule had been changed, though none of the Survivors had managed to beat one of the Killers in open combat. However, a pattern was noticed among the weapons that were given. They seemed to be relatively similar to the weapons that the Killers used, such as a blunt weapon given when fighting that Korean guy (Who Kal found out is called the Trickster)
Kal hasn't been called to any Trials yet, which gave the others ample time to fill him in on the Killers he may face, as well as a little bit on the Bloodweb. This was something that confused him quite a bit.
"So, have they shown up yet?" Dwight asks a black girl named Claudette, who was currently waiting for Kal's perks to appear on the dark table that rested near the edge of the camp. The thing usually would have the Bloodweb seared into its surface, but since Kal was going to be getting his perks, it was empty. It seemed that the Entity was taking its time deciding what the former SEAL would get.
"Nah. Nothing's come up. It must be pretty good if it's taking so long" the woman says, turning her eyes from the table to look at the guy in glasses.
Dwight just shrugs, before turning to talk to a guy named David.
Kal stands from where he was sitting next to Leon, and walks over to Claudette, staring at the currently blank table.
"So, what might worry me in this 'Bloodweb', exactly?" Kal asks her, unsure how this was going to go.
"Well, it'll show you your perks, as well as a summary of your life and what skills you had that contributed to what your perks are"
Kal seems a little bit alarmed at the mention of his life, though doesn't say anything. There's a small flash, and the pair's attention is drawn to the table, where writing has started to appear.
"Well? Don't leave us in suspense!" Bill yells over, though Claudette pauses.
"You wanna do the honors?" She asks Kal, who takes a moment to think before nodding.
"'Defender: Meat Shield'," he begins, "'Your determination to protect your comrades outweighs the pain that is inflicted upon your body. When rescuing a Survivor from a hook, Defender: Meat Shield will activate. As long as you stay in close proximity to the unhooked survivor, you will gain the Endurance status effect, taking no damage after being struck. Any attack that would instantly down you instead only injures you and gives you Deep Wound. The effect will end if the unhooked survivor is healed, downed, if the user is damaged, or if the survivors stay separated for 15 seconds.' There's also some writing on the bottom. 'Brothers defend each other, so get your @ss off the ground and watch my back'"
"That's just a quote. Something you've said in the past" Dwight states.
Kal takes a moment, before looking up from the table. "So, is that one good or bad?" He asks, unsure about whether he can judge since he's new.
"It's pretty good, actually. At least it helps out the team during a Trial," A girl named Feng says, with the others quickly agreeing. "What are the others?" She asks.
Karl takes another look.
"'Craftiness: Shiv. Necessity is the father of invention, and life has shown you how to make what you need to survive. Gain the ability to gather materials from broken pallets and sabotaged hooks. After enough materials are gathered, gain the ability to create a shiv. A shiv can either be used when carried by the Killer to immediately free yourself, which will destroy the item, or be thrown at the Killer to stun them. Hitting the killer in the torso or limbs will cause them to occasionally wince, stunning them for 0.5 seconds. This effect can be canceled by the killer pulling the knife from their body, though they will be stunned for 3 seconds. A hit on the head will instantly stun the Killer, and will keep them stunned until they remove the knife. This will destroy the shiv. The Survivor may only care one shiv at a time' And there's some more of that writing. 'It ain't pretty, but as long as it gets the job done, then I'm happy'"
This perk got the Survivor's attention very quickly.
"Are you kidding me?" Jake asks, hard to believe that what he heard was real.
"Um, why's this such a big deal?" Kal asks, confused.
"Because we've never had a perk that lets you carry a weapon that can continuously stun the Killer, and from range as well. The closest thing we've got even remotely close to that is Leon's Flashbang, and that just stuns them for a moment," a woman named Laurie says, still shocked.
"Okay, I guess it's pretty big. Do want to hear the last one, or should we just leave it at that?" Kal asks, and the Survivors quickly bring their attention back to him, having been conversing among themselves about the perk.
"Thank you. This one's a bit long, so give me a couple minutes. 'Supply Drop: X-STAT. Your training has taught you that sometimes a wound just needs to be closed off to be good enough. After repairing Generators to a total of 120%, Supply Drop: X-STAT activates. The nearest unopened chest's aura will be revealed to you for 5 seconds, and if there are no unopened chests left in the Trial, the nearest opened chest will close and be used instead. Inside of the chest will be an X-STAT syringe. This syringe can be used once to instantly heal a survivor from both the Dying State and the Injured back into the Healthy state. However, using the X-STAT syringe will give the Survivor the Fresh Wound status effect. With Fresh Wound, performing rushed actions has the chance of restarting the Survivor's bleeding, and enough rushed actions will automatically bring the Survivor down into the Injured state. Healing from the Injured state will give Fresh Wound I, though healing from the Dying state will give the Survivor Fresh Wound II, which has a 60% higher chance of the wound opening back up. Healing can rid the Survivor of the Fresh Wound effect, though Fresh Wound II takes 50% longer to heal.' And there's one last quote. 'Pain means that something is needing to be fixed, so stop squirming and let me fix you'"
The other Survivors are silent as they think this stuff over, though it's Claudette that is the first to speak.
"You should use up any Bloodpoints you've got. You might need them for your next Trial," She says, moving from Kal's perks to the Bloodweb, which she quickly starts to point out what he should get for starters. Kal just tells her to choose for him, since he has no idea what he should get.
"Huh. There's a lot of our perks showing up in your Web. Maybe the Entity is going easy on you. It took us forever to unlock each others' perks" Claudette says, Kal watching her pick up a perk called Iron Will.
Once the Bloodpoints had run out, Kal moves over to try and decide which perks to choose. It showed that he could pick two Perks, though he had to choose between his own, a perk called Déjà Vu, a perk called Adrenaline, and the perk Iron Will from before. After a bit of thinking, he decides to go with his perk Craftiness: Shiv and Iron Will. He could handle pain well and can usually keep quiet, but some assistance from the Entity will be very helpful if things go south.
Once he finishes selecting, Kal leans backs and looks around. "So, now what?" He asks, though his question is answered quickly.
The familiar black smoke pools at his feet, before rising, engulfing him in darkness.
