It's true though, and mostly we believe it. Life is too short, boring, even meaningless sometimes. People usually crack jokes "life's just pointless crap". Do we know is what is being said is even true or not? We don't. But we assume. Bold of us enough to assume it. Some find it crappy, some of us find it meaningful, some see its important, some people are just done with life.

Really bold of us to assume - life is any of these. Life is like tides. Steady, quick, beautiful, dangerous, controlling. Life leads you to happy moments as quick as it leads you to hurtful moments as well.
There was never guaranteed for people. As to how life will treat you.
But it guaranteed us. To change you. To everything you know.
