I was waiting, wondering when Callum would shift, but he didn't. Not going to lie, I was slightly curious to see how his wolf would look like.

Uncle Lance's wolf was ferocious, but he barely shifted for us to play with Luxe- only on occasion when Luxe needed to stretch out. If anyone but family saw Luxe, well, they'd be stone. Same with West's glorious white wolf, Salvatore. Both father and son had the trademark red eyes through the curse of our family.

As I did.

My curse powers only happened once, and ever since I tried to practice, it wouldn't come. Erico wasn't in the age yet to have his developed or not since he was only fifteen, but our parents thought he possessed it too.

Grandpa told me it's an intentional switch, a different lens through which our eyes could see. No matter how hard Uncle Lance or West tried to teach me either, I was unteachable. It was a one time error.

But you have it, Reggie reminded me. Use it as a weapon.

Maybe it's the same reason I didn't get it. Our blood mixed with vampire blood, there's a block in magic that is fighting within itself. Dad gave one his warm smiles, shrugging at the fact I was defective.

Given all the effort put in me, it was as if I didn't have it at all. Wyatt was thankful the gene skipped over him, but I'd rather have it skipped than having it but not using it.

Like in times of crisis, I could help myself out and this pack. Explaining how I could do it would be tricky though. Oh yeah, I'm cursed a family curse because my Grandma was a badass.

Nothing could prepare me for the wreckage in the temple when we arrived. Silently. On guard, and Callum was completely alert, signaling me if I could follow him behind the temple or not.

Just as many wolves that came up with Daria to the meditation, none were here. That means Opal was gone wherever they went. I had to find her.

A leaf blew in the wind, and Callum knocked over the trespasser that tried to attack. The trespasser sputtered a string of curses.

Daisuke.

He struggled to get up, and Callum offered his hand, but Daisuke refused. "About time you guys showed up."

"Where is everyone?" I asked him. Surveying the entire area, as we walked over the bridge in the garden.

"Only two wolves came here and attacked which caused a mass panic." Daisuke looked at the temple grounds.

"We know who they are, and you're not doing anything about it." Daisuke turned to Callum them, throwing him an accusatory glare. "Acting as if everything is fine when in reality this pack will crumble."

"It won't," Callum's voice held no room to argue. A dark look passed for just a millisecond on his face before it went to a neutral blank expression.

Daisuke's glare went to me. I held my breath.  "Then why is she here? How did she pass through the impenetrable barrier?"

I raised my hand. "Uh, I'd like to know that too, thanks Daisuke for voicing everyone else's concerns too. Much appreciated." I offhandedly threw him a fake smile and put my hands on my hips, best emulating Mom when she was mad at me or Erico...or even Dad when he ate too many strawberries before dinnertime.
