Before we start this long journey, I want to let everyone know that this was basically one of my One Shots that I wanted to turn into a book. The original one shot will not be used in this book, but it will have scenes that are very similar. If you want a preview of what's to come, you can go check out "In the Ashes" in my Miraculous One Shots book.
Thank you all so very much for reading, and onto the story.
By the way...Please vote. This took me SO long and I would really appreciate it.

Just another day.
Time drew on slowly, Ms. Mendeleiev's stark voice explaining the blunt steps of the empirical formula. The only kid really paying attention being Max, others (such as Kim) kept themselves busy watching the buzzing light in the corner of the room. The only thing semi-interesting was when Nino started humming a tune and Ms. Mendeleiev paused to chasten him.
Adrien watched the clock, counting the seconds until he could make his great escape.
Well...it wasn't really an escape.
This class had given him the time to wander in his own thoughts, to actually somewhat relax. Which, he hadn't really had the opportunity to, since the upcoming of his father's big gala for the winter collection. He was swarmed with photoshoots for advertisements and conferences about release dates and a whole other load of things. There was always something that needed to be done, someone to talk to. And Adrien was physically and mentally exhausted.
Even the simple time spent in school was like a gift from heaven. The opportunity to talk to someone other than Natalie and businessmen. He even found himself grinning on one occasion as a blushing Marinette tripped over herself. Really, it was only her that could make him smile in a time like this.
Well, her and Ladybug of course.
This day was particularly quiet. No one really talked behind the teachers back or secretly watched videos on their phone. Everyone was in their own world, only keeping to themselves. Adrien questioned if his voice still worked, letting out a small hum to break the dead silence. He could have sworn he saw the teacher's ear twitched as he did so.
The day dragged on.
Honestly, he didn't believe it wanted to end.
The class grabbed their belongings the moment the bell rang, each trying to squeeze out as soon as possible to get to their next class. Adrien was sort of in a trance, his body moved, slowly picking up his things, yet his mind remained blank. He sat up from his chair, slugging his backpack over his shoulder and looking towards the back of the classroom.
His eyes met blue.
Just then he felt the slightest shiver of pure dread run through his entire body. His eyes widened, swallowing as the shiver passed through his abdomen. Marinette looked quizzically at his face, wondering why he was staring at her so intensely. The feeling left as quickly as it came, Adrien now realizing just who he was looking at.
"H-hi Marinette..."
"H-hello A-Adrien", she timidly replied. "A-are you o-okay? Um, you look like you've seen a ghost." She gave an awkward laugh at the end, picking up her notebooks and holding them tightly to her chest. Alya had been absent today, leaving Marinette a complete unorganized mess without her friend.
"...Um, well h-have a good day, bye!" Marinette flailed while scrambling out of the classroom, leaving an even more confused Adrien. He took a deep breath, trying to get a grasp on what it was that he felt.
