Imagine all perspectives
I know the old one
it's overly played out in my mind
girl meets boy
she's head over heels
grinds herself to a pulp
for just a drop in return
she's done it before
it stings worse each time
she's lost a bit of that fresh
juicy ripe rind
in offering
to the one placed on a pedestal

That story is poetic but where is it's truth?

My heart sits in me like a
tree trunk
roots running deep
it never leaves me
and i've regrown those leaves
which fell burnt last autumn
and thanked them for each lesson
they brought me
wider and wider
these rings show my growth
the damage of the past left
new bark, beauty marks
i stand stronger than before

new perspectives are needed
sometimes and it's hard
to let go of the ones that once soothed you
yet in meeting someone who recognizes
strong bark, sees the beauty
of your leaves and waters
your roots
you see how little
love gave you before

you gain a new normal
another ring
a new perspective
