The cold was biting away at my skin. Goosebumps pricked along my arms under my jacket and I huffed, running a frustrated hand through my hair. I had been standing on the side of the road for thirty two minutes after sneaking out of that house—such a risky thing to do when my father was clearly still in one of his worst moods—and I was beginning to believe that I've simply been scammed. After I had stated my name and birthdate, I had made sure that the bruises on my face were unnoticeable with makeup, and had walked to the location the man on the other side of the phone had said.

Now I think that I've gotten my hopes up for nothing.

I groaned, rubbing my eyes tiredly before dragging myself away. Another let down. Apparently the world was against me. Maybe I had done something to deserve this treatment in another life? Perhaps.

I was about to round the corner when I paused, turning back as the rumble of a vehicle neared. I cocked a brow and hesitantly walked over, catching sight of a large, black van parking right where I had been standing.

A sudden cold sweat accumulated around my neck and I swallowed hard. This was definitely suspicious. As I neared it, coming to a stop right at the side where the man from the phone had told me to go, the door slid open.

"Password?" a man in a mask asked from the driver's seat.

"Red light, green light," I answered immediately. He nodded once and gestured for me to hop aboard. I licked my lips, hesitantly approaching despite my earlier frustration. Was this the right thing to do? What if this was a trap? What if I died or was kidnapped by this strange man behind a mask?

Eventually, I forced my legs to work and stumbled into the van. The door closed with a click. I glanced around, noticing I was far from alone. People lined the seats, all sitting still. "Uh, sir," I called out, lightly touching the man's shoulder that sat next to me. His head rolled, eyes closed. I whipped around, finally noticing why it was so quiet: everyone here was asleep. I turned back to the driver wildly, eyes widening. I caught sight of him staring right back at me.
