With a strangled gasp I jerked up. The bed underneath Sae-byeok and I wobbled unsteadily and my eyes widened. My heart threw itself violently against my bruised ribs and I tumbled from the bed, yanking Sae-byeok with me. The two of us stumbled down the stairs. Everything was chaos. People were screaming. Splatters of blood pooled the floor and I slipped, only for Sae-byeok to tug me upright. The lights started flickering, flashing and blinding my eyes as we stumbled around, disoriented between darkness and light. Sae-byeok panted beside me, flicking out her knife as she held a death grip on my hand.
"We need to go to 456's bed!" I yelled, barely making out my own voice through the screams and yells of frantic players.
But Sae-byeok seemed to understand because she nodded and tugged me forward as we started running in the direction 456 had pointed to when he had talked to us. Sae-byeok let out a choking gasp, her grip ripped from mine as she was pulled away.
"Sae-byeok!" I screamed, lunging forward, catching a glimpse of one of the people I knew was in Deok-su's gang before someone yanked me by my collar. I crashed to the floor with a grunt as a woman stood above me, eyes wide with craze. I looked around for help before the woman suddenly lunged, glass shard in hand. With a yelp, I rolled over, letting her slam to the floor. "Shit!" The curse slipped through my lips as she took another swipe, but I staggered to my feet, jumping away. When she went for a third attack, I dodged, dipping down under her arm and twirling, kicking her in the back. She fell to the ground with a scream and I sprinted away, stumbling and weaving through people as they all ran around.
"Sae-byeok! Sae-byeok!" My voice cracked, thoughts of her hurt or dead or bleeding out running through my mind as I kicked down another player who took a wild swing at me.
"Oh, 406," a voice sung loudly over the screams and I flinched, looking around wildly for the owner. My eyes landed on the same man I had seen at the beginning who had given me lewd looks the entire time in his presence. His pudgy face was splattered with blood, teeth stained red as he grinned manically at me as we locked eyes. I finally saw his number—278.
