No Running in the Halls

Jack raced down the concrete streets with one shoe still untied. He was running late....again. His alarm hadn't gone off....maybe it did and he just slept through it. The point was if he was late one more time for Mr. Wilkins class he was going to get detention...again.

Jack ran onto campus and turned into the hallway corner. Someone got in his way.

He slammed right into her. Knocking both of them down. Books and paper flew about.

"Ouch." She groaned.

"I'm so sorry I was running late and......you're barefoot." Jack said noticing the girl's shoeless feet,

"Yeah someone must've taken them by mistake in the locker room. Im new here I think I put them in the wrong locker," she said picking up her things,
She was pretty. Jack hadn't seen her face around here before. Her hair was long and blonde and her cheeks were tinted pink with freckles. He realized she was carrying a lot more books then he was making him feel worse about knocking into her.

"So you decided to walk without your shoes?" He asked.

"Yeah not a good plan I know." She said standing up. I was going to call my mom at the office to bring me another pair."

"Don't you have a cell phone?" He asked.

"No I don't." She replied.

"Wow I think you're the only girl I know that doesn't have a cell phone." He laughed "or shoes."

"Yeah I know. I was homeschooled so there really wasn't a reason for me to have one," she said. Her eyes stared at his knee.

"You hurt yourself." She replied pointing to his left knee.

He looked down and saw that his pants had ripped at the knee and he was in fact bleeding.

"Oh well look at that," He said.

"Here let me help." She replied taking out a mini first aid kit from her purple backpack.

"Wow you are really prepared." He said as he winced when she put the disinfectant on.

"Yeah I want to be a nurse when I'm done with high school." She put the band aid on his knee.

"There all better." She said.

"Thank you, uh what's your name?"

"Rapunzel." She said.

"You are very unusual Rapunzel. I mean that in the best way. I'm Jack." He smiled.

The bell rang as class had started which meant Jack was late again.

"Aw man Mr. Wilkins is going to kill me." He said.

"You could walk me to the office and go into the nurse's saying you think you got a concussion from your fall." She said.

"Wow prepared and smart. A deadly combo. I like the way you think Rapunzel," he smiled.

"Good. Maybe we'll run into each other. Figuratively not literally I hope." She replied.

"Oh I'll definitely make sure of that," he smiled and began walking her to the office.
