A/N:
Heyyyyyy!
Welcome everyone to my first Genshin fic! I haven't written fanfic in a couple years so I may be a lil dusty, but I really like Xiao's character and had a few scenes in my head I wanted to write out! (cover/banner will be updated soon!)
I am fairly new to Genshin, so there may be some innaccuracies so bare with me!
You can also find me @alastrozy on ao3/tiktok and @oikawasboyo on twitter <3
Also I made myself cry writing this so enjoy! :)

You could hear the rain pattering as you walked down the stairs to the main floor of the inn. Your shift was finally over after a nice work day, though you were very excited to finish up and get some rest. Your eyes searched for the long haired woman you were looking for as you approached the front desk. "Aha! There is my favorite worker!" came a voice from behind you. You spun around with a grin on your face as you met eyes with the person. "And there is my favorite boss!" you reply back to Verr. She gives you a soft smile, though it quickly dissipates from her face. "I see you are done for the day, though I was actually looking for you myself." Verr turned to grab something from her bag. "I ask that you give this to Xiao. I have been trying to find him myself but have not been very successful, and I know you see him more often than I do these days." she chuckled as she handed you a letter.
The letter was an interesting shade of yellow, with a golden seal on it that you had never seen. You grabbed the letter and put it in your bag, looking back up at Verr. The smile from her face disappeared once again, and you could have sworn you saw a hint of sadness in her eyes. You decided to shake it off, not wanting to intrude on anyone's personal space. "I will make sure he receives it." you say confidently, earning a small smile from Verr. You nod and turn to walk away, but are quickly pulled back again by Verr's voice. "One last thing.. I think it would be beneficial that you are with him when he opens this. Okay?" she says, almost pleading in a way. Though confused, you give her another quick nod before turning and heading back to your room.

You practically throw yourself into your bed once you reach your room. Despite how nice work was today, the downpour outside had made it unbearably noisy and cold so it was very relieving to be back in your warm bed. A smile crept on your face, you were so thankful you had this job and room in the first place. It wasn't everyday that an Adeptus such as Xiao would support you in this way, offering up his room to be used by you. Though he insisted that it was fine since he rarely slept or used it regardless, you still felt a twinge of guilt about it from time to time. Though those thoughts were less common these days as you and Xiao's relationship had grown much stronger ever since you met.
"Lost in your thoughts again?" a voice said from the balcony teasingly. "You sure are a hypocrite sometimes you know that?" you scoffed as you rolled your eyes at the balcony. You watched Xiao emerge from the balcony, absolutely drenched from head to toe from the rain. You were so lost in your thoughts you forgot it was raining in the first place. You giggled at the sight, getting up and throwing a towel in his face. He shook his head and went to get changed and dry off. As you went to go back to bed your eyes widened, remembering the letter you were supposed to give him. You grabbed the letter from your bag and sat back on the bed. Something felt off as you stared at the envelope, which was increasingly concerning considering how Verr was acting earlier. You shook it off once again, knowing it would be fine no matter what.
Footsteps trudged your way. You looked up to see Xiao sitting down on the other side of the bed, no longer dripping wet from the rain. You tapped him on the shoulder, meeting his golden eyes as he spun around. "Verr wanted me to give this to you." you said handing him the letter. His eyes widened, a gasp escaping his throat as his thumb ran back and forth over the seal on it. You looked at him, trying to find the emotion on his face, but he seemed just as lost as you were. "Xiao..?" you finally said. He looked at you and took a breath. "This is a letter from Rex Lapis..." he replied.
