Chapter Four: Hold On Till May

Star's POV

I was thrown into a wall in the dark music room. The person who grabbed me turned the light on so I could see who it was. I couldn't believe it. It was my father, the father who beat me till I was unconscious and who Mike said was in jail. I went to scream for help but he hit me on the side of the head with a bat. "So Jessica-Star, now that no one can save you, I think that it is time to end your life." He said with a evil tone in his voice. "No, you're wrong. Mike and Vic are upstairs. They will save me." I replied. I looked tough but I was terrified. "That's only if you get the chance to scream first, which I wont allow." He suddenly lunged at me and covered my mouth. I bit him and he put his arms around my neck. "Now, Jessica. Would you rather have me kill you, or would you want to kill yourself? Either way I'm going to get what I want. I could rape you, Jessica-Star. I could make you see what it feels like to be loved by a man instead of a girl. You disgust me." He said as his hand slipped down to me legs. I began crying and that only motivated him. He removed his hand away from my mouth and I screamed as loud as I possibly could. He hit me with the bat again and I fell onto the floor.He walked up to me, removing his pants as I heard foot steps run down the hall and someone opened the door. Vic and Ice ran over to me as Mike and a police officer ran towards my Father. Ice held me in her arms, crying, as Vic checked my wounds. The police officer took my father out of the room in hand cuffs and Mike came over to me. Mike held Ice as she was having a panic attack, because of what happened. Vic held me and sang Hold On Till May. At the end he kissed my head and helped me stand up. As I stood, I felt a sharp pain run through my leg, and sat back down. Vic took notice of this and picked me up, carrying me out into the living room and onto the couch. He called an ambulance and Ice and Mike sat next to me.

We were in the hospital room and everyone was staring at me. I felt really uncomfortable and my face turned red. Ice held my hand and Destiny walked into the room, running over to me. "Thank God you're alive Star!" She said, embracing me in a hug. "The doctor said that she might have fractured a bone in her leg." Mike said to Destiny. "You're still alive. That's all that matters." She says to me, but facing Mike. The door opens again and a nurse walks in. "The doctor will be back soon but he wanted me to tell you that you did not fracture or break anything. However, you will experience pain in your knee. We are sending you home with pain medication and advice to get a knee brace." I nodded but wasn't listening. Something about medication and a brace. The nurse walked out and I sat up in my bed. Ice was still holding my hand but she wasn't paying attention. All I wanted to know was what she was thinking. She must be extremely worried about me. I know that she doesn't want to lose another loved one. She lost her dad to a car accident when she was little. They were driving and a huge 18 wheeler collided with her dad's car. They both made it out alive but in the hospital, her dad died from loss of blood. Everyone thought it was her who was going to die. She was only four and was tiny. She lived though. It was sad and I try not to bring it up because of how it's impacted her. Apparently the doctor came in and I was allowed to go home. He gave Mike my medication and told Vic that I should get a knee brace. Destiny had her mom pick her up and Ice went with us. It was about 11 at night but we still went to Wal-Mart to get a cheep brace. We went home and Ice called her mom to explain what happened. Her mom said that she could skip school to take car of me. She also said that Ice could stay till Sunday if it was okay with Vic and Mike. It was, and all four of us sat in the living room and watched The Fox And The Hound. Probably my favorite Disney movie ever. Everyone fell asleep except for me. I was scared to go into the kitchen so I woke up Mike. "Mikey..Can you go to the kitchen with me?" I asked. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and said "Sure. Are you scared?" I mouthed "Yes." and he got up. We walked into the kitchen and he sat on the counter. I got myself some vegetarian lasagna and he laughed. "Why are you getting food? And can you get me some." I got a plate out for him and said, "It's going to help me calm down. Maybe, just maybe, I could go to sleep." We both laughed and walked back into the living room with our food. I carefully sat next to Ice and Mike sat on the floor. Ice curled up to me and I slightly pushed her away. "Baby wait until I'm done eating. Then we can cuddle." I whispered. "Why are you eating?" Her voice was adorable when she was sleepy. "Because I'm hungry." I hear a "Ew food." from her as she curls into a ball and drifts to sleep again. I finish my lasagna, put my plate on the floor and curl up next to her, falling asleep.

I wake up to Vic shaking me. "Star, wake up. It's like three in the afternoon." Three in the afternoon, no surprise that I'm still asleep considering last night. "I'm up, I'm up." I say as I lazily get up. Ice throws a pillow at me and laughs. I throw the pillow back at her and go upstairs into the bathroom. I brush my hair and walk down stairs. Ice throws a pillow at me again and i run up to her, pick her up, and run around the house with her on my back. I finally set her down on the kitchen counter and get something to eat. "Just out of curiosity, but why did you guys wake me up now?" I asked. "Cause you're adorable when you sleep." Ice said, giggling. I blushed and returned to pouring some milk into my cereal. I walk over to the couch and turn the Tv on, and begin eating my food.

Destiny's POV

I exit the school to meet up with Freddie. Me and him were going to surprise Star tonight. I already talked to Vic about it and he said to be at their house by four. It was about three now and I saw my boyfriend over at the tennis courts talking to his coach. As I come closer to the courts, Freddie turns around and smiles. His coach walks away, so I'm assuming that they were done talking. "Hey beautiful, ready to go to Star's and surprise her?" he asks. "We have an hour, and I still need to get some things from my house." I say to him. He leans down and kisses me. "Okay babe. Let's go to your house then." He kisses me again and leads me to his car. We get in and drive to my house. I go inside, leaving him in the car, and get the bags of food and stuffed animals. Star was easy to shop for. All she ever wanted was food and stuffed animals. with Dunkin Donuts every once in a while. I walked out back to the car and put everything in the back seat. "Okay, we have to go to Dunkin's." I say. "Yay donuts!" Freddie exclaimed. Damn, I love this boy.

We arrive at Star's house and I ask Freddie to take the stuff from Dunkin's. "Don't you want me to help with some of the bags babe?" "I may be short but I'm as strong as you are. I've got it." I say laughing. He plants a kiss on my cheek and we get out of the car. I walk up to the door with Freddie and all of the food and things for Star. Freddie knocks on the door and Vic opens it. "Shh, she's asleep. I woke her up but she went up stairs and fell asleep again."
