Hours passed while we walked through the city, getting distracted by the city, and everything within it. It's shops, exotic restaurants. I scolded him for the first few stores he went into, while I waited outside. By the fourth one I threatened him with leaving and continuing on my own. When he got to the fifth, a small animal shop, there was just no way I could resist the floppy eared rabbits in the windows, when I caught one cleaning its face with its paws. Max took advantage and succeeded to lure me in, animal by animal, pointing out anything he was able to find captivating about them. But it was all on him when he wanted to leave but I didn't. It wasn't until I reached the back and the spiders, that I left voluntarily.
"This is torture," I grumbled. We'd reached the end of the end of the street and were standing next to an Irish pub/grill while we waited to cross the road, in front of us a café, and on the other two corners, two more restaurants. Delicious aroma of food flowing all around.
"I have like, ten bucks with me," I heard Max say, while we waited for the red palm to turn into the white walking man, who at the moment seemed to be taking his precious time.
There was no denying I desperately wanted him to pull out those ten dollars and walk into that café where we would sit at one of those round tables, engulfed in the warmth of the brewing drinks, each with a warm cup of coffee. In fact I dreamed of it as we waited. But I decided against it. We still those strawberry snack bars for now, they didn't do much, but it was enough for now.
I could do with a water though, I thought as I swallowed.
"I've got an idea," he mused, "come here." He pulled me to the side of the pub and dropped his bag.
"What are we doing?" I asked.
"We, are going to raise some money," he informed. "For us," he nodded. his hand motioning between us.
"How is that?"
"With this," he stated, bringing his guitar over his shoulder as well. "While you, my mermaid, sing."
I froze, I didn't know what else to do but just glare at him with such a horrified expression. He most definitely could not be serious. I only hoped he was joking. While I did like to sing, I only sang to myself, with the exception of Ms. Honey. But even then I had to prepared myself, what Max was suggesting was beyond petrifying, there was no way I could sing to a widespread community. The sun was just setting as the main street lit up and filled up with people even more, only adding more to my nerves.
"Are you kidding? I can't do this!" I gestured around me.
"Ray we have to do something. Unless you have any better ideas then please, do share."
I wish I did. I didn't say anything, but just glared back at him as he was doing to me. I bit my lip as I looked around again, noticing the growing number of our audience. I pondered over the idea, knowing I didn't have much of a choice. There was a knot in my throat that had formed and i gulped it down. I took a deep breath and looked back at Max, and nodded. "What am I gonna sing?"
"Anything. Anything you know."
"Well of course genius, but while I may know the songs, what about you? What if you don't know them? Or vise versa." I retaliated.
He sighed while he thought. It took a while and I was about to rejoice in the fortunate event that he would find no other way and give up. But I couldn't. "We know Disney," he pointed out.
"Disney songs?" I couldn't stop myself from rolling my eyes at him.
"Yeah. Well what else?" He snapped. But I couldn't blame him.
