It was Monday and everyone was ignoring me.
This meant that there was a new rumor and it must have been a vicious one for everyone to ostracize me.
Even Chloe didn't make a snide remark about my hickey; everyone just seemed to glare at me.
I wondered if the new rumor was that I had HIV, or herpes, or something contagious.
Finally when lunch came around, I made it my duty to find Kayla.
That was the first sign: Kayla hadn't found me first like she always did, nor had she came to get me earlier to tell me about the rumors.
I saw her at the cheer table. That should've been the second sign because ever since Kayla and I had become friends she always sat at my table but being the oblivious person I am, I still went up to her.
"Kayla," I said from behind her. She didn't answer.
"Kayla!" I said knocking on her shoulder. She turned around sent me a glare along with all the other cheerleaders and continued her conversation.
"Mikayla?" I tried one more time.
"What do you want you f*cking whore?" She yelled at me and I took a step back. Usually words didn't hurt me. People said things like that to me all the time. But they were just people. This was Mikayla, my best friend. And hearing those words come from her. Hurt. It hurt a lot.
I left her table and was going to look for Justice when I decided it was best to not do so. Whatever could have riled Kayla up could have done the same to Justice and I don't think I could handle losing two friends after this terribly sucky day. So I went outside to the side of the school and sat down where I thought no one would find me.
I wanted to cry but I knew if anyone saw me, I would be ruined and I couldn't risk that now. So I kept those tears in. Locked far away.
I plugged in my headphones, closed my eyes, and let myself drift away to a better place. A happier place.
But of course, even in the most secluded part of the school someone tapped on my shoulder, causing me to abandon my happy place.
"What?" I asked tersely, not even bothering to look up.
"What's gotten your pantie hoes in a bunch, my little seductress?"
Out of all the people in the entire world. Why did Colton find me?
"Like you don't know."
"Contrary to popular belief Mrs. Maywhether, I don't know everything."
"You wouldn't care if I told you."
"Try me." He said as he sat down next to me.
So I confided in him. I told him about how everyone was ignoring me, I told him about Kayla and what she had said, thus explaining why I was so grumpy and why I was sitting alone.
He sat there completely silent until I finished and when I finished he asked the simplest question. But that question in itself made my emotions spiral.
"Don't you have any other friends?"
I was mad at him for asking such a stupid question. I was sad because maybe I didn't have any more friends. I hadn't talked to Justice yet but what if Justice yelled at me like Mikayla. I knew if that happened, I wouldn't be able to stop the tears.
I couldn't tell Colton this. I had already told him too much. He didn't care. He was talking with me for gossip. Colton didn't do things that he couldn't benefit from.
