Hot water dripped down my body as I was standing still in the shower, lost in my thoughts, thinking about today's dream. He was watching, he always was in my dreams but today he walked past me, brushing his shoulder with mine. And I had chosen that exact moment to wake up. Six o'clock, I always wake up from my dream about him at six o'clock.
I have been seeing him in my dreams for a few years now, a stranger, a pair of intense green eyes I couldn't recognise. It drived me crazy that I would never remember his face when I woke up, it was just his eyes.
'Why now of all times?' I questioned myself. Why had he approached this time? Why didn't he just watch me while I squirmed under his gaze, like he usually did?
I quickly scrubbed myself clean and turned off the shower, not wanting to waste any more water. I wouldn't get any answers like this, I would know, I have tried for years.
I walked into my room and dressed up. I brushed my hair and was making my bed.
"Hannah, you ready yet? Taylor is waiting outside and you haven't had your breakfast yet" my dad shouted from the kitchen.
"I'm coming" I shouted back placing my pillow on its rightful place. I grabbed my phone and my bag and raced downstairs.
I grabbed the sandwich off the table, my dad always made time to make breakfast for me, no matter how simple it was. He was standing next to the counter on the kitchen, wearing an apron, making pancakes for my little sister and brother who were playing with their crayons. They were twins, just not identical.
There was only one piece that was missing in this puzzle called family, mom. She did not leave us or die, she is missing, she has been for years now, we did what we could but couldn't find even a trace of her, it was as if she just vanished, like her whole existence was a life. And I knew dad was still trying to find, the one his heart longed for.
"Have fun" dad said over his shoulder. I kissed my siblings forehead telling them bye and they responded by kissing the either sides of my cheeks and went back to playing.
I opened the front door to see a very angry Taylor about to knock the door and almost got punched in the face.
"How long does it take you to get ready?" She asked. Her red hair was curled today.
"Depends" I replied and walked to towards her car.
"Depends on what?" She asked me, following me to her car and getting on the driving seat.
I had moved here about five months ago, we were always moving around. Dad got transferred a lot and though he wouldn't say it out loud I know he hopes to find mom somewhere, and in all honestyI hope he finds mom too, but seeing him like this is not something a daughter would want.
Going to a new school on your junior year was not a very fun thing to do. But Taylor and I just clicked, she was not the first one to talk to me in this school, no. But the first one that I actually had a proper conversation with here. She had welcomed me with everything, never making me feel that I didn't belong.
"Guess what" I said. And she turned her head towards me her eyebrows raising and her lipstick covered lips stretching into a smile.
"No, I didn't meet a cute guy" I deadpanned, and her eyebrows came down and she stopped smiling within a moment. She put on her seat belt, started the car and started driving to school.
"You remember the guy I told you about?" I asked.
"The one who appears in your dream" she asked, keeping her eyes on the road.
"Yeah, he sort of walked past me in my dreams, brushing my shoulders and stuff" I tried to put it out as casual as possible.
"What?" Taylor yelled and I flinched.
"After all this time, why?" She asked me, her eyebrows furrowed. She was the only one that actually believed me and didn't think that I was having dreams like this because I crave attention and the fact that I am not dating anyone affects it. Although I am pretty sure to Taylor this has become something like a new mystery left to be solved.
"Beats me" I mumbled. Taylor's eyebrows were furrowed the whole ride to school.
"You know what? Lets forget about this, we will talk about that later" I told her, knowing Taylor, she would be stuck all day on why's and what if's , if she don't stop now.
"God this is frustrating" she complained.
"I know, I know" I nodded. We walked in and instantly changed our expressions from frustrated and confused to happy and confident. You don't know how good people are at doing that. Hiding our emotions and sealing it away until it eats its way back into your life is a trait that many humans have, even after knowing that it'll just hurt you more.
"Good morning, girls. Guess what happened?" Maddie came running to us. Her brown curls were bouncing all over the place in a beautiful way. She stopped a moment to catch her breath. But luck was not on her side, as the bell rang before she could tell us what happened.
"Nevermind, I'll tell you later" she said, dissapointed that she wasn't able to share the valuable piece of information she had rushed here to give us. Taylor and I rushed to my english class, it was one of my favourite classes. It didn't help that it was the only subject I was good at. But the teacher can be a little rude sometimes. But from the inside, he is a good person with a bad temper.
"Late again, Hannah?" He questioned from where he was seated in the front as I stepped in. I pursed my lips
"I'm sorry sir, it'll not happen again"
"That's what you say every time, haven't seen any changes yet" he remarked sassily, had I forgotten to mention about his sassiness? Apologies, my lord loves sass.
"Well, can you bring in some papers from the staff room." He asked me throwing me the keys to his drawers without even waiting for my answer.
"Of course" I said, which didn't matter, really.
I walked to my seat and placed my bag on my seat, next to an empty seat were my friend used to sit, she moved away without any prior warnings leaving us confused and hurt. She was one of the people that I had actually gotten close to.
I closed my eyes and shook my head to clear my head before I felt sad again. I took a step back and headed to towards the door to go to the staff room to fetch the papers which my English teacher Mr. Whitson had asked to bring.
I reached my hand to open the door to the staff room when it opened from the inside revealing our principal.
"Good morning, sir" I said bowing my head slightly in respect.
"Perfect timing, would you be able to assist me for a moment" he asked me.
"Actually, Mr. Whitson had.." I began
"Oh it will be quick, I am sure you will have a minute to spare Hannah" he cut me off waving his hand in dismissal of whatever I wanted to say. And started walking towards his office. And no, it is not uncommon for the principal to know you personally when you're Taylor's friend. Not having any other choice I followed him.
"So I want you to meet and escort a new student to his class and show him around the school, tell him how things work here, is that okay?" Wait, a new student? Is that what Maddie wanted to tell us? Well seeing how she was very excited to tell us, I am guessing it's a good looking guy.
I was about to say that it might be inconvenient for me and somehow get myself out of it when he opened the door to his office. There was a guy sitting on one of the chair, his shoulders wide, facing away from us. He turned his head at the sound and my eyes were met with intense forest green eyes.
'SHIT!'
