'No, no, no' I gasp as I retreat back into the corridor. This earns me a quizzical look from the other thief. This is so bad. So, so bad. I cannot get caught. Lucy Amberose does not get caught. How am I going to get out of this mess?
'Hey'
I fall to the floor. This is awful. Completely awful!
'HEY!'
I blink. Is the other thief talking to me? I turn my head to face the thief. 'Yes?' I ask confused.
'Daylight isn't it?'
I nod. Suddenly an idea pops into my mind. The window. It's too high to climb too normally, but if I use a metal arrow -instead of the classic kind- and shoot it into the wall, the arrow should be able to hold my weight. If I tie some of my rope to the back of the arrow, I can climb up it, assuming I have the physical strength to make it that high.
Pulling out my rope I start evaluating the area around the window. I decide on shooting the area above the window so that I'm not struggling to pull myself up onto the window sill, assuming I make it that far.
I begin to tie the rope to my arrow.
'Hey' the thief calls for my attention again. Even in this dire situation I can't bring myself to ignore someone when they talk to me.
'Yes?' I ask confused, again.
'You can't leave without leaving a trace if you leave me stuck to the floor. No one uses arrows these days, you made a mistake, being unique'. Damn that boy. Damn him to the deepest pits of hell. He was right.
'Why don't you just pull the arrows out of your shoes?' I look him up and down as I say this. He is kind of cute, which is a shame because if he hasn't figured out arrows can be pulled out of walls, shoes and other objects, he is stupid.
He gives me an "are you stupid" look and I realise that he can't turn to face the back of his shoes from the position he is stuck in. He can barely reach the buckles on his boots.
'Oh'.
I walk over there and pull the arrows out. I hear footsteps coming our way. I'm running out of time.
'Finally' the other thief sighs. I choose to ignore him and his very existence and take the shot thinking of only my target, and my escape. Nothing matters but the arrow and the target. I pull the arrow back, too it is in line with my cheek, and let it go. The arrow slices through the air.
It hits it mark, and I can't help but smile. 'You always leave holes in the floor and wall when you steal things?' I turn around to glare at the other thief.
'Why are you still here?'
'Because walking out of the door, into guards, and workers, from a room someone just stole a jewel from, would be a very bad idea, but by all means, if you want to go out there, feel free, and I'll climb up the rope'.
I glare at him 'I am not helping you escape' honestly who does this thief think he is? First he tries to steal my jewel, then he demands I pull the arrow out of his shoes, and now he wants me to help him escape? Can't he do anything by himself? I feel sorry for his employer, if he isn't just here to get this jewel for himself.
He smirks 'that's cool, I'll just tell them the real thief is a girl, of a medium height, uses a bow, escaped that way, and tried to shoot me three times when I tried to stop her, and tell them don't worry she has a tracking device stuck the her back anyway'.
He is so immature. 'You're going to lie?' wait did he say tracking device? 'Did you just say tracking device?'
He chuckles 'Yea I kind of stuck it to your back why you were ignoring my existence'. What an ass! This is why I work solo, other thieves will do anything to make sure they aren't caught, included petty blackmail, and turning on other thieves.
Now I have to help him out of here. 'I'll help you, but you better take this device off my back' I continue to glare him down. To think I had though he was stupid. In all reality he is just an ass, a cunning, annoying, ass. It doesn't matter how cute he is, I hope I never run into him again. Honestly, if I wasn't as good a person I am I would put an arrow in his back.
Breathe Lucy, I remind myself. Breathe in, breathe out, just climb the rope and be out of here. Assuming I can...
