Another Friday night spent at the school football game. I walked away from the concession stand after paying for my soda. I made my way towards the student section with Carly.
We've been best friends since the first day of freshman year and now we're about to graduate together next semester. She's the outgoing, more popular one of the two of us who loves to 'live up her highschool years' as she calls it. That includes things like parties and football games which I couldn't care less about anymore.
"Lane, are you even listening to me?" my best friend said waving her hand in front of me.
"Oh sorry.. um what were we talking about?" I said biting my bottom lip.
She threw her hands to her sides in frustration."Alana Donaldson, do you ever listen to me?" she laughed shaking me. "I told you that Tyler from the football team is having a party after the game and that we're going."
"Ughh, do we have to?" I whined.
"Yes, we're going. You can't keep just sitting at home all the time."
"You know I have a good reason to stay at home," I said looking at her getting serious.
"Alana..-"Just drop it." I said a little too harshly. Thankfully she let it go, and went back to watching the game with our friends.
We pulled up to Tyler's house and I could already tell it was going to be a long night. Red cups already filled the yard, music was blaring from inside, and cars were parked everywhere along the street.
As our group walked in the door, a drink was quickly placed in my hand. We found a spot and I looked around. A lot of people from school were here and a lot were already getting wasted. I chugged my drink to try to help calm me down. I winced as it burned as it went down my throat."I'm gonna go find the bathroom," I yelled over the music to Carly after awhile.
"You okay?" she asked with a concerned look.
"I'm fine, really," I said reassuringly, but really I just wanted to get out of there. She nodded and gave a smile. I weaved my way through people until I found a hallway. I opened one door to find a couple making out. I quickly closed it and opened another to discover it was the bathroom. I locked the door and splashed water on my face. I fixed myself up a little bit and walked out. I really just wanted to go home, I was not in the mood.
As I started to walk to the group I saw they and many other people had started to join together in a circle around something. Everyone looked pretty drunk, but I made my way over to see what was going on. As I walked closer, I could hear yelling and tell it was a fight.
Right as I made my way to the group, everyone backed up leaving me in the front. I saw Tony Fox, a popular guy at school that I had talked to a few times, was yelling at another guy in a football jersey that had his back to me. All I could tell was that he was number 81 and had brown hair. Next thing I knew, football jersey guy threw a punch. I watched as they went at it. Football jersey guy was throwing blow after blow at Tony. Tony gave the guy a good punch, but the guy was able to come back and give Tony a good hit to the gut. Tony stumbled back from the hit, running right into me making my drink spill all over me. They stopped and everyone faced me and it got quiet.
"Oh shit," the boy in the jersey said.
