Dana, Kendall, Avalon, and I went to the mall, where they had turned Hot Topic into some kind of magic store. Despite the fact that we cried a little at the loss of our favorite punk-rock/emoish store, we were still interested enough to learn about the new establishment. The name of the seemingly intriguing place was Genie. According to their eye-catching advertisement on the store’s front windows, they had any and all forms of magic imaginable.
When we entered the vicinity, the store clerk greeted us. “Hello girls, welcome to Genie. This is the place where we can make all your wishes come true. If you need anything, my name is Miranda.”
The lights in the store were pink and yellow, with a plethora purple accent lights. The ceiling had glittering fabric draped from the ceiling, circus tent style. There was a dark purple velour lounge chair behind the first two display cases. Every case had an assortment of crystal bottles, each one filled with mysterious, and oddly glowing, potions.
“Hey Ashley, come check these out,” Kendall called. When I strolled over, I came upon a sight that could make any girl happy: love potions. They ranged from that of a small crush to getting married with 10 kids.
“Okay guys, have at it!” Avalon hollered “Today’s round is on me!”. We were flying all around the store, gathering all sorts of brews. I decided on 3 potions of skill and beauty, 2 gifted voice potions, and 4 love potions. By the look of how many attraction and beauty potions Kendall was buying, Genie’s gonna be making a fortune today and any guy within a-hundred-mile radius would undoubtedly be rushing to her.
I paused for a moment, noticing the eerie sound of foot steps on the tiled floor. That wasn’t possible, considering we were the only ones in the store. We had the early entry pass, so we should be the only ones here. I thought to myself, maybe it’s just the janitor, and went back to sipping my Venti Caramel Creme Brulee Frappuccino. I involuntarily listened again, the footsteps seemed to be getting closer. Then they suddenly stopped, I froze. When I looked up, standing in the doorway was the hottest guy at our school, who also happened to be the world’s biggest jerk and the player of all players.
“Jason Royce,” I hissed. I shot up off the lounge chair, glaring at the douche I had once adored. Everyone slowly began to stop what they were doing and went silent, waiting to see what was next to unfold. Zach, his practical brother, was standing next to him as if he was his backup if a fight broke out.
The silence was pierced by Jason’s voice “Well since you’re just going to stand there gorgeous, I guess I can come in.” his smirk only infuriated me, but I also began to feel the old attraction for him.
Stand your ground, I thought. Of all the places he could have gone, right in front of me seemed to be his choice of approach. As if he were going to kiss me, Jason leaned down close to my face. I felt the strangest thing in my chest, was it desire? Did I want to kiss him? I could feel his warm breath on my lips, making the feeling grow even stronger. It was like a rock in my chest.
Then, the desire that was just rising like a rocket plummeted to the ground like the rockets boosters when he said, "Why are you such an adorable little bitch?” Kendall gently set her new potions on the counter and then ran over to Jason, ready to bash his face in. I tried desperately to hold her back, but she was a strong girl for her small frame. She slipped away and raised a hand towards him, prepared to place a big, red mark on his face. Luckily, Avalon and Dana got there in time to hold her back before it got ugly.
