THE HEELS OF YOUR BOOTS clicked the floor and the door to the gymnasium made a loud sound when you pushed them, the large blocks of steel opening to reveal a gym filled to the brim with people.

you looked around at the stands to the side, blinking in awe at the sheer amount of students and family in the crowds.

tsukishima had sent you the game information a few days ago, telling you the event would take place at the school gymnasium in the evening (around 6:30 pm) on a friday.

he was lucky you rarely ever had any friday plans.

"who knew volleyball was such a popular sport?" you mumbled to yourself, keeping a soft grip on the camera hanging around your neck. or maybe they just come for the boys, you thought but didn't say.

your eyes stopped at a few empty seats that were way up near the wall of the gym in one of the middle rows. "perfect," you smiled, making your way across the gym and up the stairs.

mumbling 'excuse me's and quiet 'sorry's, you shuffled through the neatly seated columns of people, trying to get to that one seat.

you were about to sit down when you felt your shoulder bump against something... or someone. looking up, you were met with grayish-green eyes and a face full of freckles.

"oh!" the boy almost squeaked, his face morphing from one of surprise into a sweet smile. "my bad. you can have the seat, i'll find somewhere else to sit."

"no, that's not necessary," you grinned nervously, looking back at the bench, "it seems you were here firs-" just as you were about to finish your sentence, a middle-aged man got up from his seat, his phone clamped to his right ear. he shuffled through the column of people and hurried down the stairs, the call seeming to be urgent.

both you and the green-haired boy blinked at the now open seat, then back at each other, and smiled.

"well," you said in unison, before breaking out into soft laughter.

"guess neither of us have to sacrifice anything tonight," you said, taking a seat and setting your bag on your lap. "i'm y/n," you held out a hand for the boy to shake when he finally took his seat beside you.

you felt his warm hand clasp yours, shaking your hand with a firm grip. he stared at you for a moment before he realized you were waiting for him to say his name. "oh! i'm-" he snickered a little, "i'm yamaguchi. tadashi."
