Two

I calmly sit in the car. Shocked. My friends screaming after me as I calmly walk with him. Drawn to him.

I sit in the car, beside him, he doesn't take his eyes off me. Almost like he's feeling the same way I am, surreal this is even happening, even though I am unsure what this is.

I sit, silenced whilst we leave town. My heart racing as the fear and reality start to arise. I relax instantly as I felt him arm brush my leg.

"You are okay, I will explain everything I promise" he whispers.

I jump as the car comes to a sudden stop. He opens the door and I follow. I look up to the most glorious castle I'd ever seen. Gothic but extraordinary.

"Where are we?"

"Home" he states.

I follow behind him as he struts through the door. His friends standing in the doorway, who were also gorgeous.

"Xander, is it her?" One states. I glare in bewilderment.

"I don't know" he states. He pulls me towards these huge doors as my skin lights up like electric.

He pulls me through to two huge seats sitting, with two people sitting on them. They reassembled him, they were gorgeous and looked powerful.

I watch as his hands rummage through his hair.

Nothing is said. No words. I watch as the lady looks at me in shock.

"We need to see if it's her Xander, you're going to hate it if it is but we need to test it" I watch as he nods in agreement.

I can't stand this anymore. I blurt out, "Can someone please tell me what is going on"

She looks at me, "what's your name child"

"Vera" I state.

"Vera, you're currently in the vampire royal castle. You've been brought here because you might be my son's mate, I am the Queen and this is my husband the King."

My eyes widen as my skin crawls, "mate?" I question. "I'm human, it's impossible."

"Unlikely, but not impossible" she speaks.

"Mates are a very serious thing Vera, it's destiny, they can't be chosen. If you are my son's mate, then you will grow a love you've never felt, you'd die for this person, and he would do the same."

Panic strikes as my head goes light. "But I'm human" I quietly break.

"Doesn't mean you will be forever."

I stand in shock. No words able to form. This is a lot of information. My instinct is to look at him. I turn as he's already looking at me. I wanted him, in a way I couldn't fight no matter how absurd this whole situation is.

"We will run the test tomorrow, you need rest Vera. You and Xander cannot see each other until tomorrow night, when the full moon hits, when we will carry out our examination."

I glare around, shocked, unable to process what is happening. I felt my heart quicken as my hands shook. He steps towards me and lifts my chin.

"We are in this together" he breathes as he walks off, my heart reaching after him.

"Maxine" the Queen calls. I watch as another girl, dressed to the ultimate sophistication appears.

"Yes your highness"

"Bring our guest to her room."

She smiles at me and signals me to follow. I scurry behind her. We walk in silence down the halls, up stairs, around many rooms. My thoughts too consumed to keep track.

She pulls me into the room and closes the door.
"I'm Maxine, although this seems really scary right now Vera, I've done this too, you can do it and it's for the greater good."

I sign as the unanswered questions fall.

"Do what Maxine?"

"I had to do tests, challenges to try and work out if I had found my mate. They will be painful and hard, but just focus on the greater good."

Before I can ask anything more she's out the door.

I throw myself on the bed as darkness takes over.
