Chapter Three: Never make a bet that you can't keep, Captain
A/n: Yeah, you'll see what that little 'bonus' was.
XXX
It took us two years of, blood, sweat and tears to graduate from our training. I was so glad to be done with all that damn training, it seemed to take 200 years, not 2 years. I guess I was just an impatient person and all.
My friend Homer and I became really close over those two years, even close enough to share an overly awkward, yet sweet, first kiss. So, I guess we were more then friends now?
Also, over half of the group we started with, seemed to either quit or be sent to the fields. The drill Sargent said that it was because the were a risk to the military, whatever they meant. All I know is, I am glad that I wasn't one of the people who got kicked out. Even though, the first day I came pretty close to it.I felt Homer nudge me with his elbow, causing me to look at him. He pointed for me to stand forward as the training officer began his congratulation speech.
"Well, I'm surprised at some of you maggots made it. Only the top ten of you will be able to choose the mp position," he explained as he went down the list.
Shockingly, I was in the top ten, I had gotten the 5 spot and Homer was lucky number seven.
"What are you going to choose?" I heard Homer ask me.
"I don't know, probably the Scouting Legion," I explained and Homer nodded.
"That's what I was going to choose also, it's more dangerous and we probably will face titans and get some glory!" He explained.
I just looked at my friend and rolled my eyes. I almost wanted to say that there was no titans, unless you want beyond the wall. I was from beyond the wall, and my parents and grandparents had been eaten. So, I knew first hand how those things could be. I kind of had an inner personal vendetta against them.
There was one thing I hoped for wouldn't happen; me ever running into that Levi guy. My innocence, virginity, girlhood was on the line. What sucked was I was the kind of person who was raised to have high morals; if you make a bet/promise you have to go through with it. Damn my parents for teaching me how to be so noble!
So, I just hoped I didn't run into the man I had coined the devil in my head.

I was horrified with what had transpired in my head about Captain Levi doing to me. I mean he was literally doing me! I can't believe I had just had a wet (and quite vivid) day dream about him taking my virginity!
My cheeks were probably flushed a deep shade of red and I could tell by the way I was panting, my vivid dream had caused my temperature to spike. Plus, my mouth had gone dry by now.
"Can you even hear me?" I heard Levi state, as I was pulled from my state of inner-perversion.
I blinked several times and then looked at him.
"What were we talking about?" I asked.
"About our little bet, or had you forgotten in the past 15 minutes you had gone silent? Are you ill, Norman?" He asked me as I watched him reach for a handkerchief and place it over his mouth.
Maybe I had gone ill, with the way my mind was casting delusional perversion into my reveries. I must be sick, I placed my hand to my head out of instinct and I was cool as a cucumber. Nope I wasn't sick, just had an over active mind.
"Not sick," I muttered out.
"Then what were you thinking about that has you in such a state, you little brat," he said, still eyeing me with caution. If the guy had a can of Lysol in his hand, he surely would be spraying me with it.
I felt my cheeks color even. "You don't want to know,"
I saw him smirk and lean forward on his couch, his elbows on his knees. He made this small gesture look elegant. Damn my confused brain!
"Try me," he said, his tone all deep like. His eyes focused on mine, his eyes were a color I couldn't quite decipher.
I had to come up with a lie. My eyes then drifted towards the file that had been placed in his lap. I decided to stick to that.
"So, that Erin Jaeger kid's DNA is pretty unique. What is up with that, are the rumors true about him being a titan? If so, I would like to do a better examination of the kid." I rambled, causing Levi to grumble something that I couldn't quite understand.
"Yes, the rumor are true Captain Norman, but that is none of your concern. Now what has you so fluster?" He asked as he leaned in more, causing my breath to hitch.
"Uh, I was having a rather...span of inappropriate thoughts, about...my ex..." I fibbed, my cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red; the color of a cranberry if I had to describe.
"Hm...so I take it, that you aren't a virgin?" He asked.
"Uh...I am...I just don't think that a bet that I made as a child, as an adult I should be held accountable for," I said with false bravado. I looked him directly in the eye. My brown gaze, focusing on his mysterious eye color. I stared into his eyes, he was unmoving in the stare down.
'Did this guy ever get nervous?' I pondered as I looked away.
We sat there in silence for like 3 minutes, but to my beating heart it seemed like 3 years. Seriously, that thing was beating in my chest.
"Yes you should be, Gemma Morgana Norman," he said his voice dark. I looked over at him and his face held a grim line.
"As a captain, any word you make should be held to the up most quality," he said, his gaze focusing on mine and pinning it. I dare not looked away, in fear of what he would do.
He had me there. I had only been a captain for less then a year, and this was because Homer had left for the royal guard or whatever. I missed my best friend, he didn't even keep in touch with me; which scared me to death. I just hoped my best friend wasn't dead.
"You are right, sir..." I stated.
Levi looked at me and shook his head
"You shouldn't even be a captain, you are only one because of your ex-boyfriend resigning at switching branches," he said.
My brown gaze faulted as I looked up at him.
"How old are you, cadet?" he asked.
"Twenty-three, almost twenty-four, sir," I said, my tone meek. Why was he being a jerk now?
I looked at the floor and held my breath as I waited for him to speak. My face still held my blush, but now it was one of embarassment.
"Twenty-three, such a young age so you are legal. Why worry about this little bet, cadet?" He mocked, as I saw him stand and come closer to me. I felt him place his hands on either side of me. Here we go...
"I'm waiting for your response, you little shit," he stated, his face now dangerously close to mine.
Taking a deep breath as I casted my eyes to the ground. I felt something that wasn't desire undermining behind my fear. I felt my favorite ally, anger rise up slowly.
"Because Captain, it is quite simple, I don't know who you are. I know of you, but I personally don't know you. Like, on a first name basis," I said, my tone just a curt as his had been.
"Pssh, like that matters, you should have thought about that when you were a kid, cadet," he mocked.
"Captain..."
"What? He asked.
Here comes my anger.
"I'm not addressing you personally, I am saying I am a captain." I plainly said.
"I beg to differ," he said as he moved even closer.
Just as I was about to speak, I heard the door rudely slammed open. Levi and I turned to see who it was. It was a short stature blonde male, with large eyes which were wide and full of panic.
I heard Levi let out a low feral growl as he suddenly stood up straight and walked towards the kid. I was secretly glad for the interruption, I knew if I would of spoke I would have said something that I would have regretted.
"This better be good, you little shit!" Levi growled, seemingly pissed.
The kid gulped and he looked over at me, I sent the cadet a small smile and nodded.
"Tell us what had happened, cadet---"
"Armin, Captain," he stated.
"Well what happened?" I asked, as I too came into a standing position, I hope there was an attack, so I could clear my mind.
"There was a group of titans spotted near the wall, and Commander Erwin sent me to get you," Armin explained.
Levi looked at the kid and then to me. I heard him sigh and watched him get his gear and suit up.
"Very well, if Erwin said there was a titan spotted near the wall,I'm going because the garrison regiment is shit when it comes to titans," he growled. I watched him seemingly pull his green cape out of nowhere and don that on.
I just stood there, I wondered how many casualties I would have to handle with. How many bodies I would discover that couldn't be made out. How many families would be: motherless, fatherless, sisterless, brotherless, sonless and daughterless. I just hoped there wasn't a large count to deal with.
"Did he say for you to alert the Recovery Regiment?" I asked, my voice taking on a serious tone.
I watched the blonde kid's eye fall to the bright red hawk that was located on my jacket.
"You are her," he stated.
Oh God not this again.
"Yeah, but I am not that impressive," I stated with a meek smile.
"But, you took on a 7 meter titan on with just a simple knife," he stated with awe in his eyes.
"Plus, you let alone saved a---"
"I saved seven people, and one of them happened to be a noble, not that great," I said with a small shrug. Seriously, how was I going to live that down.
Levi looked at me completely shocked about what I had done in my rookie years. They weren't that great of endeavors as the kid made them sound.
I just shook my head and sighed.
"So, about me having my regiment ready for any medical evacuations?" I asked.
"Y-yeah but, he said for you to come along with Lance Copral Levi," the cadet said.
I nodded and was glad that I had remembered to wear my gear and swords, like I always do.
"Let's go," Levi stated.
"Yes sir!" The kid said as he saluted Levi.
The kid walked out and Levi followed suit, leaving me with the door open.
"Coming, captain?" He asked.
"Yes sir!" I said as I saluted him mockingly, causing him to grumble something.

Once Levi and I had both of our squads rounded up. I had to go back and tell my nurses and medical staff that I had left. I also chose my best fighters/medics out if my group 120 cadets and old members.
I had gathered all of my medical equipment and packed it into the saddle bags of my horse.
My group of 20 or so soldiers and he had about over half of my army. I took a deep breath as one of my squad leaders, Helen rode up next to me.
"Is that who I think it is, Captain Gemma?" She asked.
"Yup, that is humanities finest, in the flesh," I stated and she nodded. She looked like she was star struck.
"He may be good, but you Captain, are much better," she said with a smile as she rode on. I sighed as I felt my horse, Whiskey, start to paw nervously at the ground. I lightly patted the philly on her neck and nudge her along with my heels. I knew she sensed something was up. Just as I looked I saw Levi next to me.
"What was that cadet going off about you killing a titan with a knife, Norman?" Levi asked.
I sighed and shook my head and cracked a small smile. "I swear as this story goes on, I will have killed a titan with a spoon,"
"Pardon?" He asked, slightly confused.
"Let me explain," I said and he nodded.
"Oh, I like stories!" I heard the voice of the head of the science department, Zoe Hang. I sighed and shook my head, that lady frightened and amused me at the same time.
"Dammnit Hang," I heard Levi growl.I decided I needed to explain the story, to set truths straight. It was more luck and stupidity then anything.
"When I was just in my first year, I decided to be an idiot and venture pass the wall, which was a big mistake on my end." I stated.
"Figures, you would do something that stupid," Levi butted in.
I sent him a look and shook my head.
"Anyway, like I said, I was young and stupid. What I didn't expect was to come in contact with a titan right off the back. I was lucky Homer had went with me. Plus, there had been a group of Noblemen who wanted to venture out for some reason, that was beyond me. So, here Homer and I were riding around and feeling brave and BAM there was a group of titans ahead. They were chasing after the moronic nobles who had ventured forth. Homer and I did what we were trained to do and that was to save humanity. The titans had managed to get them cornered and were about to enjoy a snack of noble, but Homer and I swooped in and saved them. Homer took down two pretty quickly. Me, I had managed to take down a few 4 meter titans. But nothing that major. Then out of the blue, Homer was knocked to the ground and a seven meter titan was coming after him. I sprang into action, but somehow I managed to loose one blade and the other snapped. So I was left with half a blade and I managed to kill the titan, but it was by some devine luck," I explained.
"So, stupidity of youth and rookie luck is how your legendary feat is known for?" Levi asked.
"Yup,"
"You gotta be kidding me," I heard him say.
"Yup, I'm not like you, Mr-I-am-humanities-fuckin'-finest," I interjected.
Before he could speak, a titan seemed to appear out of nowhere. Here we go.
"Who ever kills the most titans, with the least assists; the bet falls in there favor," I said.
Levi looked at me and smirked. "Deal," I watched him spur his horse on.
I just sighed about me making bets...with this man. I made a bet with the devil this time...again.
