Casey's POV.
"I'll be back later!" I yell out to my mum as I slam the door behind me.
There was no denying that she didn't worry about me when I leave the house, not after what happened 6 months prior. Let's just say that sometimes people don't see things in their life getting any better, and that's exactly how I felt. It's how I still feel, but I'm getting there.
I'm wearing black skinny jeans, a red sweater and my black vans. My hair is up in a messy bun with a few loose strands falling over my face.
As I get in the car I feel my phone begin to buzz in my pocket. Quickly, I pull it out as my eyes widen to see who the caller ID was.
Leah.
I stare at my phone unsure whether I should answer or not, but before I know it my thumb swipes the screen accepting the call. I haven't spoken to Leah in four years after she moved to London because of her fathers job. We always said we would organise to see each other again but it never happened; until today.
I stay silent, waiting for her to speak first, fearing what she would think of me now. Four years ago I was a happy 12 year old with the world in my hands, any difficulties I faced I would deal with and get through it. But now it all just feels like a small dark room I am trapped in. She doesn't know who I am anymore.
"Casey?"
My heart begins to beat out of my chest, she sounds the exact same as the last day I saw her.
"Y..yes... hi Leah..."
I hear her let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh my goodness Casey! I was so scared that by now your number surely would have changed!" she squealed through the phone, "how have you been?"
"I've had better days," I breathe out trying to force a laugh.
"Well your days are about to get much much better, we are moving back to Birmingham! My family and I are in town for the weekend looking for a new place,"
I had absolutely no clue how to feel about this. Maybe it would be good having a friend around, someone else being by my side. Or it could be the worst thing to happen. If Leah can't accept who I am now with everything going on I don't think I could handle another person leaving my life, it could destroy me.
"That's amazing!" I blurt out, not thinking of what I should said.
"We need to catch up!"
I remember Leah being a very fun and crazy person, but I was fearing she was about to pee herself with how excited she sounded right now. It hurt me to know that she wouldn't be meeting the same Casey Fletcher she left those four years ago.
"Definitely,"
"Tomorrow?"
I was silent for what felt like hours, tomorrow was so out of the blue.
"O-of course,"
"Excellent! Same address?"
"You bet,"
"Okay Casey, see you tomorrow!"
Yep, definitely think she's wet herself by now.
"Bye."
Hanging up the phone I tried to relax my breathing, and to wrap my head around what just happened.
"Right," I breathe out, "gotta go see Brad."
Throwing my phone on the passenger seat next to me, I finally made my way out of the driveway.
-
"You okay?" Bradley spoke.
Brad and I were sitting on his front porch after he met me out the front of his place when I arrived.
"Sure am," I said forcing a smile, pushing my hands on my knees and standing up. I looked to Brad who stayed seated, with I puzzled look on his face. He knew when I was lying. "Righteo, don't you have something to teach me?" I piped up as he was opening his mouth to say something.
"Uh yeah, of course," he said standing up, with a large grin appearing on his face. "This way," he grabbed my hand pulling me to the garage door, walking inside.
Under a shelf sat three skate boards and two penny boards.
"You look like a hoarder,"I said bluntly.
"Well Casey, once I teach you all the cool moves then you're going to want your own hoard of skateboards too," he joked, "now pick,"
"Pick whichever one?"
"Mm hm," he nodded.
"But I don't know how to ride any," I giggled.
"Fine fine fine. Let's do the penny," he said picking up one pink and one blue penny board, handing me the pink one.
"Nah uh," I said biting my lip and shaking my head, pushing the pink one back to him, "blue one please," I probably looked like a fool with the massive grin on my face.
"Of course," he smiled while rolling his eyes.
"Oh Brad, you're going to look so cute on your pink board," I cooed.
"Trust me, no one will be paying attention to my pink board once they see you try and skate," he said smirking.
I punched his arm and rolled my eyes, "hey! who knows, I could be one of those really gifted kids and this could be my hidden talent," I said sarcastically.
"Right..."
We walked out onto the street, it was the perfect place to do this since cars rarely drove down.
"Alright Casey, stand on the board. I got you," Brad said pointing to the my board on the ground.
I nodded and stood on, it was about to slip underneath me when Brad grabbed my waist.
"Are you ready?" he breathed down my neck, sending goosebumps through my body.
