Endangered Species

Chapter 1

He looked into the mirror and noticed how ugly he truly thought he was. He wanted to be different but all he could do was think about who he was and couldn't change deep-down. He was way different from all the other people he lived with, when he was angry he grew ears that were spiked, sharp cat like teeth, his eyes changed to yellow, his skin turned purple, he grew large claws, and sometimes couldn't control himself. His whole family knew who he was but only since then was he able to confide in himself. His whole family died in the car crash when he was little, surprisingly he survived. He still wonders till this day why he survived and why he was left alone. He lost his mom, dad, little sister, and older brother.

The people he live with know that he is different from other teens. He considered himself a monster, he didn't want to be this way, he didn't decide to be this way. Every time someone bullies him, he always has to run away because he might go overboard and turn into something he doesn't want to show other people. He knew his plan since he was 15... He's always wanted to go into the military, army, or the navy. He knew that if he went into any of those branches that he might be able to use his power for something good. But once he tried to sign up at 18 he found out that there was a new branch that he was qualified for. It's a space Branch, it's new so no one really knows what they do. Even the people that told him he was qualified, didn't even know what the branch did.

They only knew that he'd be in space for quite a long time. By the time he'd be down back to Earth, he probably wouldn't see his family anymore. Going into this Branch meant risking a lot of lives and risking your own. He didn't really care much about the family that he was living with, they did give him food, they did give him water, and shelter, but they truly didn't treat him right. They always abused him for nothing, they always told him he was a real monster. They always told him that no one would love him for who he really is. After all the torture and abuse, he decided to finally join the space branch.

He was given free travel all the way across the world, just to get in a spaceship and flown to Space Cadet Living Station. In the Space Cadet Living Station, that's where all of the crew , that he was going to be with for the rest of his time servicing in that branch, will be. Of course he was nervous at first, but once he got to know everyone he truly knew that they would be able to trust him even if deep down he was a crazy monster.

He first got introduced to the commander, Ryder. Ryder was a tall man in stature, he stood over him like a great statue made of granite. Ryder seemed really intimidating but deep down he really was a nice guy, unless he needed to be something different.

The second-in-command, Amanda, was the girlfriend of Ryder. She survived the attack of the strange alien creatures that took over her ship. Those aliens have killed her mother and she decided to go out to try and find out what happened to her, finding out that really it was just the aliens that killed her. She said it was one hell of a ride, she almost died out in space until Ryder found her floating in the great beyond with a low oxygen tank.

There were four other crew members, Amanda, Dale, Nick, Elizabeth. Amanda seemed nice for a girl her age, she seemed around her 30s. She told me once that she was married to a handsome man, he was also very rich in money. Dale had never been married, he never really liked relationships. He's been in multiple relationships but none of them actually stayed together. He jumped around with girls and boys just to see how he would feel, but never really found the right one.

Nick told me once that he had a husband named Alexander. In stereotypical ways, Nick really did look kind of gay. By what he wore, by the way he talked, and by the way he showed his actions.

Newbie's POV

Nick tried to end up saying inappropriate things about his relationship with Alexander, soon after I got noticed by someone in the far corner. I was told that there was four members, but I feel like that it was a lie since it came from Amanda. She always seemed like the gossip kind of girl, she also seemed like an asshole, and a bitch, and also someone who lies a lot. I looked over my shoulder and saw someone sitting on the couch peacefully reading a book. I went over to Nick, since he seem trustworthy, and asked who that really was over on the couch reading a book. "That's Alejandro over there, he really does like to read his books peacefully so I advise not to interrupt him. He didn't really have much of a life back on Earth so he decided to come up here and do whatever he really wanted.

He's trying to find something, something he's been devoted on. He reads about them, looks them up on the internet, and reads articles all about something he wants to find. I found some of his articles, but he usually finds me when I try to read them so I don't know what they're about. I know he's gay by the way he looks at me, or I'm really just into him. It's probably just me." Nick said as he walked over to the large window showing Earth. I looked out the window and noticed how big the Earth really was, and how it's being destroyed everyday by pollution or other things.

'Alejandro... I wonder why he's so shy, or is he shy? Maybe he will be different if I go up to him. Or maybe he won't be different.' I kept staring at Earth until I got interrupted by Dale, "I hope you know we're having a meeting in a couple minutes, we're going to be talking about our interests, secrets, and whatever." I nodded but I really didn't know where to go so I had to ask him, "Can I just hang out with you for a while so I know where to go?"

"Sure pal, I always love some company." Dale said as he walked over to the kitchen table. Once we sat down he started asking questions, "So how old are you, Squirt?"

"21, you?" I asked, I'm guessing he's in his late 20s. He chuckled, "I'm turning 29 tomorrow."

"Happy early birthday then." I smiled, but was frowned at when a short childlike person came over. The little child like woman person came over and put her arms around Dale's neck as in a back hug. Her skin was a light pink but around her face she had small circular art that was a darker pink to show her features. Her ears were quite long out and pointed at the end, her tail was longer than her body, it started out dark pink and at the tip it was a lighter pink with a ball of fur. She didn't seem really fond of me being there, or smiling at Dale. "Squirt, this is Elizabeth, my girlfriend." I was confused when he said girlfriend, he said he usually went around but I don't think he really has a choice while he's up here. Elizabeth seemed way too short to be his girlfriend, she looked like an exact replica of a child. Maybe it's just the way that she is, maybe her species. "And if you're wondering, she is 29...29,000 years old. Her species has a gene that makes them look almost like a child even at her age." It took me a second to realize that he said 29,000 years old, that's pretty old for someone who's humanely turning 29 tomorrow.

I looked past the girl glaring at me and I saw Alejandro was not sitting at the couch anymore. "Do you think it's time to go to the meeting?" I asked. I didn't know really, Dale only said a couple minutes but I really can't keep track of time very well. Dale looked at the clock that was across the room, "Yeah, we should probably head there now."

We got up from the kitchen table and headed down a hallway, that was slightly darkened, to a pair of large doors that opened to a meeting hall. We weren't the last ones in there Amanda and Nick were missing, I have no clue what they were actually doing. I saw Alejandro sitting beside Ryder, I tried my hardest not to make eye contact with him. I saw my name on my seat and sat down calmly. I didn't know how this worked, I didn't want to just sit here all day, I actually wanted to get something done. Amanda and Nick rushed in after about being 5 minutes late.

Amanda was explaining that she lost track of time when she was telling Nick the same story she tells everyone on here, she apparently hasn't told me yet. If your story is going to make me late to something that I might not want to hear it, it might be just about her mom and about the aliens.

"Okay everyone, we're going to start with our name, 1 interest, and 1 secret." Ryder said as he looked at us all. "Amanda you can start."
