"So who's Darla?" Kai asked as they made their way towards the game. He glanced around trying to spot Lizzie's target.
"She's the blonde prissy girl by the water cooler," Lizzie muttered under her breath with a subtle nod towards where Dana was.
He considered her, then looked back at his niece. "Huh, this is gonna be entertaining," He said with a tilt of his head.
Lizzie's mouth twitched but she couldn't reply as she heard her name being called. Turning to face the newcomer, she plastered on an easy going smile.
"Josie," She greeted. Kai seemed to freeze for a moment and quickly turned to look at Josie, but Lizzie couldn't see what his reaction was.
"Hey," Josie said, stopping beside her. "Have you seen dad? He was supposed to already be here."
"No and I'd find it a lot better if he decided to skip," Lizzie said, rolling her eyes.
"What happened?" Josie asked, frowning. "Did he do something?"
Lizzie looked at her, shaking her head. "When doesn't he do something, Jo," She said as they made their way over to the others.
Josie sighed, turning to her. "I don't know what we can do. It's not like we can just get rid of him," She said.
"I disagree with that sentiment," Kai spoke up for the first time since Josie appeared. Lizzie's eyes flickered over to him briefly, biting the inside of her cheek to stop herself from smiling.
"I mean..." Lizzie gave Josie a pointed look.
Josie hit her arm. "Liz, no," She said, amusement written all over her face.
"Buzzkill," Kai muttered with a pout.
"Fine, new plan, " Lizzie said, pursing her lips. "How hard do you think it would be to convince mom to swap?"
"Swap? What do you mean?" Josie asked, raising an eyebrow.
"As in places obviously," She said, a grin growing on her face. "Let mom be the headmistress for a bit and dad go on recruitment missions."
"Dad would never agree," Her twin said, laughing.
"So, just give him his precious Hope Mikaelson, and he'll vamoose," Lizzie said, smirking.
Kai snorted in amusement, while Josie choked on her spit. "God, that sounds so wrong," She said, shaking her head.
"And yet, it seems so very accurate," Kai said, wrinkling his nose. "Ricky boy should not be around teenagers. He's a hazard."
They both had to stifle their laughter when they saw both Alaric and Hope enter the field at the same time.
Lizzie listened - barely able to stop herself from rolling her eyes - as her dad told everyone the game plan. Josie also looked like she rather not be doing this but she, of course, had an easier time holding her tongue.
Kaleb protested the idea of losing but her dad was unmoved by his words.
"So basically you guys have to publicly humiliate yourselves so that you don't raise anybody's suspicions," Kai said, looking at Alaric with disgust. "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."
He wasn't wrong. It honestly would be a good learning exercise to learn control, if they were allowed to do what they wanted but no, her dad was a stickler for boring shit.
Once Alaric was done drilling the plan into their heads, they moved to the field. Dana was watching Lizzie with a nasty look on her face.
"Hey, Lizzie, haven't seen you at the pharmacy in a while, makes one think someone's off her meds," She said with a fake pout. "And I wouldn't want something to happen today that makes everyone realize just how crazy you actually are."
