The Bad News

Ah, good ole' Teddy Roosevelt. He looked so bold, so terrifyingly brave mounted on that horse. He appeared just about ready to come alive and charge straight up that hill. But that battle was fought long ago, and this statue would never know battle.

What's worse than the soul-piercing stare of Teddy Roosevelt? The monster of a T-Rex standing in the midst of the crowd. Mouth wide open. Hollow eyes staring straight at you. His arms ready to snatch you up and eat you alive.

"Michael," Devon called.

"Whoa!" Michael jumped. "Gave me a jump there, Devon. I was just admiring the view."

"Yes, well, it appears you were a little lost in space for a moment." Devon himself glanced up at the skeleton and jumped. "Have you made any progress? Do you have his name?"

"Not yet, but I am getting close. Evidence left at the abandoned warehouse indicated an untraceable tread for a tire. K.I.T.T. is working on it as we speak."

"Working on what, exactly?"

"Its chemical formula. Maybe if we can break it down and identify its elements, we can narrow down who made the tire and to what kind of car it belongs."

"That's excellent thinking, Michael," Devon complemented. "So if you can narrow down the vehicle he used to get away in, you can catch the driver himself."

"That is correct."

Two beeps from Michael's watch interrupted the conversation. "Do you have something, K.I.T.T.?"

"It's not about the tire, Michael. I'm afraid I have bad news. Bonnie's convoy was just ambushed."

Devon and Michael stared at each other in horror.

---------------

The van lay on its side. Glass shattered everywhere. Pools of oil, dripping coolant, flames. Bent metal. And this wasn't anything compared to the vehicles in front and behind this wreck.

K.I.T.T. came screeching around the corner, pulling up just beside the crime scene. Michael scrambled out of the car, shouting, "Bonnie!"

"She's not in there, Michael," K.I.T.T. informed. "And alarmingly, neither is the device."
