Rue was only a baby when her family decided to kill her but then Klaus Mikaelson, the hybrid, shows up after hearing the baby's cries, and sees what they're doing. Klaus kills her parents and takes her in as his own, deciding to raise the little baby to be better than he is.
Klaus has a lot of enemies, he is the hybrid after all, but now with the secret out, and Rue usually always by his side.
